Supervision details

Hello, I am a BACP registered counsellor, who works with clients in Dundee, St. Andrews and Harley St. London. Why should you consider receiving supervision from me? Here are the top three reasons: 1) First of all,  I am trained in pluralism,  which is an eclectic way of working with clients. For those students or counsellors who wish to work in flexible ways with their clients, I can help them draw upon a wide variety of therapy modalities and techniques so that they can tailor their approach to the needs of each client. 2) I have an extensive academic background (five degrees) which allows me to work really effectively with my supervisees. For example: * I have an MA (Hons) in philosophy, and am now working towards a PhD in philosophy, which means I'm good at helping my supervisees a) see the big picture i.e. what fundamental issues are at stake with a specific client; b) clarify and question their assumptions, so they can think out of the box; and c) apply theories rigorously to particular case studies. *I have a completed PhD in English literature (I applied psychoanalytic ideas to the work of the playwright Harold Pinter), which allows me to a) help my supervisees understand more deeply the client's story; and b) to help my supervisees transform that story into one more hopeful and constructive. * Due to my extensive academic background, I regularly work with academics and students, and so I can especially help supervisors who are working with this client group themselves. 3) I have been involved in creating CPD materials with a colleague, Peter Macmillan, who was one of Hong Kong's most eminent competition law lawyers and is now a cognitive scientist and CEO of his company, Meisterline. We have created a series of books that are CPD certified on the subject of Angela Duckworth's work, 'Grit', which aim to help professionals develop resilience in their working lives. They can be found here: (https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?i=stripbooks&rh=p_27%3ADr+Alexander+Fox&s=relevancerank&text=Dr+Alexander+Fox&ref=dp_byline_sr_book_2) Since I'm involved in creating CPD materials, and am knowledgeable when it comes to motivating professionals to achieve their best, I am able to help my supervisees excel as counsellors. Those are my top 3 reasons and I do hope you get in touch.  The fee for trainees is £50 for 1.5 hours and £60 for qualified counsellors. Below are a couple of representative testimonials from current supervisees:  1. Alex has been my counselling supervisor during my placement as a counselling student and now also as a qualified counsellor. I am appreciative of the collaborative relationship we have developed over this time. I always look forward to supervision and sharing my thoughts with Alex as I trust him implicitly to offer ethical and sound guidance when I need it. He has always been warm and encouraging about my ability to work with clients. His feedback and response to my client work has raised my level of self-confidence many times. Also, as a counsellor from a different cultural background I have been heartened and impressed with Alex's willingness and openness to learning more about this and acknowledging and recognizing my experience, this has been an invaluable support to me.  I have no hesitation in recommending him to any of my counselling colleagues who are seeking to find a supportive, empathic, congruent, caring and knowledgeable supervisor. 2.As a trainee counsellor, finding a supportive and reliable supervisor was crucial. Alex has been my supervisor for the last seven months, and I could not be happier with all the support and inspiration that I get from every session we have together. Alex combines a wealth of knowledge with humility, a warm demeanour with gentle challenging. These qualities of his make me feel secure in my novice steps and motivate me to improve. I recommend Alex to any trainee or qualified counsellor who wants to work with a supervisor they can trust and learn from.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
