Supervision details

My Role As Supervisor: I believe the role of a supervisor is to provide a safe, reflective and non-judgmental space for you to explore your practice.  I bring to the supervision role many years of clinical experience; I have worked with a wide range of clients from diverse backgrounds and cultures who present with differing emotional issues from complex, chronic mental health problems where risk is an issue, to more everyday anxiety and low level depression. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I encourage a curiosity in supervision with the exploration of the unconscious, the defenses at play and the transference and countertransference processes.  I promote best practice where professional standards are maintained and the client is always at the heart of the work. Alongside my extensive clinical experience and a supervisory role at the counselling service with Birkbeck, University of London, I have professional development training in supervision skills with the British Psychotherapy Foundation. About me; My Training, Experience and Approach: I am an accredited member of the BCAP and hold an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck, University of London.  I am the owner of, "City of London Psychotherapy", my private practice based in Central London (www.citylondonpsychotherapy).  Alongside my client work, I provide psychodynamic supervision for medium to longer term work and have an additional specialism gained in the higher education sector working with both young people and adults in a short-term modality. I have been a Guest Lecturer at Birkbeck, University of London since 2015 running workshops on 'short-term psychodynamic work' for trainee psychotherapists on the MSc course. As mentioned, I have professional development training in supervision skills from the British Psychotherapy Foundation and prior to being a therapist, had a long career in communications and public affairs in various management roles across the corporate and not-for-profit sectors.  A unique aspect of the MSc course I undertook was the training in individual, group and organisational processes and dynamics which also informs my therapeutic approach - in particular in relation to any work issues client's may bring. Locations and Cost: I offer two locations for supervision: NW6 (close to Thameslink/London Overground/Jubilee line) and EC1A (close to City Thameslink/ Farringdon and Chancery Lane tubes). To discuss your supervision needs please do contact me by phone or email with a view to setting up an initial meeting. I offer concessionary rates for Associates/Trainees (sliding scale from £45).

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
