Why Choose Me as Your Supervisor

Selecting an appropriate supervisor is a key component of professional development and ethical clinical practice. Supervisees choose to work with me because I offer:

• Extensive professional experience – Over twenty years in practice, including a decade supporting trainee and qualified therapists within Durham University: an elite university setting, alongside experience in Adult Mental Health, Substance Misuse and Alcohol Recovery Services.

• A collaborative, reflective environment – I provide a space where practitioners can bring all aspects of their client work, knowing they will be met with curiosity, respect, and thoughtful consideration.

•  A Person‑Centred foundation – My work is grounded in the core conditions of empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, supporting supervisees to develop their own clinical voice and confidence.

• A tailored supervisory approach – I adapt supervision to the developmental stage, learning style, and professional goals of each supervisee, whether they are in training, newly qualified, or experienced.

•  A balanced supervisory style – I offer a gentle yet grounded presence, combining support with appropriate challenge to facilitate growth, reflection, and ethical decision‑making.

• Commitment to ethical practice – I work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework, supporting supervisees to navigate their work with clarity, integrity, and professionalism.

I welcome enquiries from practitioners seeking a supervisory relationship that is both supportive and robust, and that promotes reflective, ethical, and effective clinical practice.

I provide clinical supervision within a collaborative and reflective framework, offering practitioners a professional space in which to examine their therapeutic work with openness, curiosity, and courage. As a BACP Accredited Counsellor (2004) and qualified Clinical Supervisor (2022), I bring over twenty years of clinical experience to my supervisory practice. My professional background includes a decade at Durham University, where I supported the development of trainee counsellors, volunteers on placement, and qualified practitioners within an elite collegiate environment. I also have extensive experience in Adult Mental Health Services, Substance Misuse, and Alcohol Recovery Services. I now apply this breadth of experience within my private practice.

Supervision with me provides a structured yet supportive environment in which practitioners can explore the full range of their client work. This includes recognising and consolidating areas of strength, as well as engaging thoughtfully with more complex or challenging material. My aim is to facilitate professional growth, enhance clinical confidence, and support ethical, reflective practice.

I recognise that therapeutic work can at times feel isolating, and I therefore place significant value on creating a reliable, non‑judgemental supervisory relationship. My approach is grounded in collaboration, transparency, and a commitment to fostering a safe and reflective space.

My supervisory practice is Integrative and Reflective, informed by my training and experience, and underpinned by the Person‑Centred values that first drew me into the profession. These values continue to guide my work with supervisees, shaping a supervisory relationship characterised by empathy, authenticity, and respect.

Practice Description

My supervision practice is centred on developing a professional relationship built on empathy, curiosity, and respect for the supervisee’s experience, expertise, and developmental needs. I tailor supervision to the individual, ensuring that it supports clinical work, professional development, and personal growth. Together, we establish a supervisory space that enables practitioners to flourish.

My style is steady, authentic, and relational, informed by the joy I find in supporting fellow therapists. I am committed to providing a safe, confidential, and non‑judgemental environment, working in line with the BACP Ethical Framework and the core conditions that underpin effective supervisory alliances.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
