Supervision details
Hello my name is Jan De-Vyott and I have been a qualified counsellor for 19 years and trained in the Person-Centred approach. During my career I have worked in different settings, such as addiction and treatment, criminal justice, education and housing. I have been a clinical supervisor for counsellors, practitioners within health and care settings, and student social workers. In addition to being a qualified counsellor and clinical supervisor I am a qualified trainer, assessor and mediator.
Understanding Supervision
I offer supervision sessions to develop a professional relationship which helps you, as a counsellor/trainee, to reflect on different aspects of the therapeutic relationship, and aspects outside the session that impact your work. There is an ethical requirement that you maintain regular supervision whether you are a trainee or a qualified counsellor, therefore the supervision will work to harness your professional competence and develop your best practice.
- How Supervision Sessions work
It is helpful to know how you wish to use the sessions. For example what clients will be brought, are they from a specific practice (e.g. private, from a service) and whether you would like to bring non-client material is all helpful to know. - It is paramount that you feel safe and secure to bring whatever content you want to sessions and do not feel judged with what you share.
- Supervision is a place where you can be comfortable to bring whatever is on your mind, including issues where they feel they have made a mistake or are experiencing discomfort. I do not give my supervisees the "right" answers, but facilitate sessions where they find their own. It is important that supervisees bring difficult issues (both in the therapeutic and supervisory relationship) to supervision so that they can be discussed openly.
- I will provide you with the opportunity to reflect in depth, for all aspects of your practice in order to work as effectively, safely and ethically as possible.
Please get in touch with me if you would like to arrange an introductory session and understand more about how I can support your work.
