Supervision details

Most supervisors know one world well. I spent twenty years in investment banking and senior corporate leadership before training as a psychodynamic psychotherapist at the Tavistock, and I now work as a psychotherapist, executive coach and addiction specialist. I supervise practitioners whose work sits where those worlds meet.

For therapists and counsellors working with senior professionals
Bankers, lawyers, consultants, founders and senior leaders bring a world into the room that many therapists have never worked in. Power, money, status, long hours and the culture of high performance shape how these clients present and how they relate to you. I know that world from the inside, and help you understand what it is doing in the therapy: the client who seems impervious or always in a hurry, feeling intimidated or pulled to compete, or the client who treats therapy like a service contract.

For addiction and recovery practitioners
Relapse, chaotic attendance, shame and risk can leave practitioners swinging between hope and despair, or caught between rescuing and giving up. I have supervised addiction key workers for several years and lead clinical supervision at a specialist addiction and recovery charity. I understand harm reduction, peer-led and abstinence-based approaches, and hold them alongside a psychodynamic understanding of why people use and why change is so hard. I welcome LGBTQ+ practitioners and those working with LGBTQ+ clients, including around chemsex.

For coaches
Anxiety, low mood, drinking, burnout and old patterns often sit beneath a coaching client’s presenting issue. As an EMCC-accredited executive coach and a clinician, I help coaches work with this within the coaching frame, and recognise when a client needs more than coaching.

How I work
My thinking is psychodynamic, explained in plain language and put to practical use. You don’t need to be psychodynamic yourself: I work with practitioners from many approaches, including person-centred, integrative, CBT-informed and recovery-model work. We pay attention to what clients stir up in you, to patterns that repeat in the relationship, and to the setting, including contracts, boundaries, fees and endings. Supervision is also a place to look after yourself in demanding work.

Practicalities
Individual supervision is £150 for 60 minutes, usually monthly or fortnightly, in person in Central London or online. Small-group supervision and supervision for teams and services are available by arrangement. A limited number of reduced-fee places are available for peer-support and voluntary recovery workers. We begin with a free 20-minute introductory call. I work with qualified practitioners and experienced recovery workers, and am not currently taking trainees on placement.

Training: Certificate in Supervision, Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy; MSc Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Clinical Qualification in Intercultural Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, The Tavistock Centre; MSc Organisational and Social Psychology, LSE. Senior Accredited Member, BACP; Full Member, British Psychoanalytic Council.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
