Trauma, Critical Incident and Leadership Support

About us

Looking for support?

In summary, SeaSage is a multidisciplinary community of accredited practitioners offering counselling, psychotherapy, EMDR therapy, coaching and supervision for adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, burnout, critical incidents, neurodivergence, leadership stress, sleep difficulties and major life transitions.

Appointments are available in central Edinburgh, online across the UK, and internationally for coaching and consultancy where appropriate.

If you'd like to find out more about how we work, the experiences we support, what makes us different, our fees, and our lower-cost counselling appointments available from August 2026, please read on.

Life doesn't have to fall apart before it starts to feel overwhelming.

Sometimes everything changes in a single, devastating moment....a traumatic event, critical incident, bereavement, a relationship ending, or, a diagnosis.

Sometimes it happens so gradually that you hardly notice. Responsibility grows heavier, work becomes relentless, anxiety becomes your new normal. Sleep becomes elusive and you stop recognising yourself. The person everyone depends on is quietly running out of strength.

Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to navigate it alone.

At SeaSage, we help people recover from psychologically significant experiences, whether they arrive suddenly or build over time. Through counselling, psychotherapy, trauma therapy, coaching and supervision, we provide a calm, confidential space to understand what has happened, process its impact, and find steady ground again.

You don't need to have all the answers before you reach out.

Many of the people we work with arrive feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or simply  'not-themselves'. Some are recovering from trauma or a critical incident. Others are living with anxiety that has gradually become part of everyday life. Many are carrying the invisible weight of responsibility, from supporting families, leading organisations, caring for others, or trying to meet expectations while quietly struggling themselves.

You don't need a diagnosis to begin therapy, and you don't need to be at breaking point before asking for support. Together, we can make sense of what's happened, understand how it is affecting you, and find a way forward that feels right for you.

Why people choose SeaSage

SeaSage is built on the belief that psychologically significant experiences deserve skilled, compassionate and ethically grounded support. Our team brings together accredited counsellors, psychotherapists, trauma specialists, coaches and supervisors whose experience spans emergency services, major incident response, executive leadership, family liaison and clinical practice.

That combination allows us to offer something distinctive. We understand the psychology of trauma and the realities of living and working under sustained pressure. Whether your experiences stem from a single life-changing event or the cumulative demands of work, relationships or responsibility, we provide thoughtful, evidence-informed support that meets you where you are.

The experiences we help people navigate

No two people arrive at SeaSage for exactly the same reason, but many share a common feeling: life has become harder than it once was, and the strategies that used to work no longer seem enough.

Some people come to us after a traumatic event or critical incident. A serious accident, assault, sudden bereavement, medical emergency, workplace incident or another experience that continues to affect them long after life appears to have returned to normal. They may be living with trauma, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, panic attacks, disturbed sleep, intrusive memories or a constant sense of being on edge.

Others have never experienced a single defining event. Instead, the pressure has accumulated over time. Workplace stress, burnout, leadership responsibility, caring for others, menopause, difficult relationships, perfectionism or years of putting everyone else's needs first have gradually left them exhausted, overwhelmed or disconnected from the person they used to be.

We also support people experiencing depression, low self-esteem, grief, relationship and family difficulties, addiction or concerns around alcohol or substance use. Many clients come to us while exploring ADHD, autism or other forms of neurodivergence, whether following a recent diagnosis or because lifelong patterns are finally beginning to make sense.

Whatever has brought you here, you don't need to fit neatly into a particular category or arrive with all the answers. You are far more than a diagnosis, a job title, or a list of symptoms. Our role is to understand your experience, help you make sense of it, and work alongside you towards meaningful and lasting change.

The people we work with

Many of the people we support are very used to being the person others depend and rely upon.

They are leaders, professionals, founders, business owners, emergency responders, healthcare staff, maritime professionals, carers, creatives and parents. Others quietly carry the emotional weight of supporting colleagues, friends or family while putting their own needs last.

From the outside, they often appear capable, calm and resilient. Inside, they may be struggling with anxiety, burnout, trauma, grief, self-doubt or the lasting effects of experiences they have never fully had the opportunity to process.

Many tell us they delayed seeking support because they believed they should be able to cope on their own. Others worried they weren't unwell enough for therapy, or that asking for help would somehow be seen as weakness.

We see it differently.

Reaching out for support is rarely about giving up. More often, it is a thoughtful decision to stop carrying life's challenges alone and begin making sense of them with someone alongside you.

Why SeaSage is different

SeaSage was founded on a simple belief: psychologically significant experiences deserve to be met with skill, compassion and steadiness.

SeaSage is a multidisciplinary community of accredited practitioners, integrating expertise in counselling, psychotherapy, coaching, supervision and critical incident response to support individuals, leaders and organisations through psychologically significant experiences.

Our collective experience spans emergency services, major incident response, executive leadership, family liaison and organisational resilience, enabling us to combine therapeutic expertise with a practical understanding of how people respond when life becomes overwhelming.

That combination gives us a unique perspective. We understand both the psychological impact of trauma and the realities of living and working in environments where responsibility, uncertainty and high-pressure decision-making are part of everyday life.

Whether you're recovering from a traumatic event, navigating workplace stress, exploring neurodivergence, leading through uncertainty or rebuilding after burnout, our approach remains the same.

We listen carefully.

We work collaboratively.

We respect your pace.

And we believe that recovery begins when people feel understood, rather than judged.

SeaSage practitioners work within recognised professional and ethical frameworks, including accreditation with organisations such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). Our practitioners are committed to ongoing supervision, continuing professional development and evidence-informed practice, ensuring that the support you receive is both compassionate and professionally accountable.

Depending on your needs, support may include counselling, psychotherapy, EMDR, coaching, coaching supervision or clinical supervision, delivered by practitioners with the appropriate expertise and experience.

What it is like to work with SeaSage?

Taking the first step towards counselling or coaching can feel daunting. Many people arrive wondering whether what they're experiencing is ‘serious enough’, worrying they'll struggle to explain what's happened, or feeling uncertain about what to expect.

You don't need to have the right words before you begin.

Our first priority is to understand your experience, not to fit you into a diagnosis or tell you how you should feel. Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to explore. Others simply know that life feels different, and they can no longer carry everything on their own. Both are equally welcome.

We work at a pace that feels safe and manageable, recognising that every person's story, strengths and circumstances are unique. Whether you're seeking counselling, psychotherapy, trauma therapy, EMDR, coaching or clinical supervision, our approach is collaborative, thoughtful and grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens within a relationship built on trust.

Every person is different. Rather than expecting you to fit a particular model of therapy, we draw on evidence-informed approaches that reflect your experiences, strengths and goals.

Above all, we aim to offer something that is increasingly difficult to find in a busy world: the opportunity to pause, to be listened to without judgement, and to begin making sense of experiences that may have felt confusing, overwhelming or impossible to carry alone.

Our role is to help you understand what has happened, recognise the strengths you've perhaps lost sight of, and support you in finding steady ground from which to move forward, and definitely not to tell you who you should be or how quickly you should recover.

Areas in which we commonly support people

Every person's experience is unique, but we regularly work with individuals navigating a wide range of psychological, emotional and professional challenges.

Trauma and PTSD

Trauma affects people differently. Some experience intrusive memories, nightmares or panic attacks. Others notice changes in confidence, relationships, concentration or the ability to feel safe. We support people recovering from trauma, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), complex trauma, and the psychological impact of critical incidents, helping them understand what has happened and move towards recovery at a pace that feels right for them.

Anxiety, stress and burnout

Anxiety can gradually become exhausting. Constant overthinking, difficulty relaxing, disturbed sleep, panic attacks, workplace stress and emotional exhaustion often leave people feeling as though they're surviving rather than living. Together, we explore not only how anxiety is affecting you now, but also the experiences that may be sustaining it.

Leadership, responsibility and professional wellbeing

Many of our clients are leaders, founders, senior managers and professionals working in demanding environments where responsibility is constant and the margin for error feels tiny. We understand the pressures of leadership, executive stress, decision fatigue, burnout, compassion fatigue and the emotional impact of carrying responsibility for others.

Neurodiversity

We provide affirming support for adults who identify as neurodivergent, including those with ADHD, autism or AuDHD, as well as people exploring whether neurodiversity may help explain lifelong experiences. We recognise the impact of masking, burnout, workplace challenges and late diagnosis, while helping clients develop greater understanding, self-compassion and confidence.

Grief, relationships and life transitions

Loss isn't limited to bereavement. Relationships end, careers change, families constantly evolve, health changes and identity shifts. We support people through grief, relationship difficulties, separation, redundancy, retirement, caring responsibilities and other significant life transitions, recognising that each can have a profound psychological impact.

Addiction and recovery

Some people seek support because alcohol, drugs or other coping strategies have gradually become difficult to manage. Others are already in recovery and are looking to understand the experiences beneath the addiction. We offer compassionate, non-judgemental support for addiction, recovery and the emotional challenges that often accompany both.

Whatever has brought you here, our focus is never simply on managing symptoms. We work to understand the experiences that have shaped them, recognising that meaningful recovery comes from feeling heard, understood and supported, and not from being reduced to a diagnosis or a list of difficulties.

You might be wondering...

"Is what I'm experiencing serious enough for therapy?"

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from support. Many people contact us long before they reach breaking point, simply because life has become harder than it needs to be.

"What if I don't know what to say?"

That's completely okay. There is no expectation that you arrive with the right words or a clear understanding of what's wrong. We'll begin wherever you are.

"I've coped for years. Why am I struggling now?"

Most people cope remarkably well until life asks them to carry more than anyone reasonably should. Seeking support isn't a sign that you've failed. It's often a sign that you've been carrying too much for too long.

What happens next?

If you've recognised yourself in these words, the next step is simply a conversation.

We'll spend time understanding what has brought you here, answer any questions you may have, and consider together whether SeaSage feels like the right place for you.

There's no pressure to commit beyond that first conversation.

Finding the right therapist is important, and we believe you should feel able to make that decision with confidence.

Life has a way of changing all of us.

Sometimes suddenly.

Sometimes so gradually we hardly notice.

Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to find your way through it alone.

We can't change what has happened.

Together, we can change what happens next.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
