TWO YEAR TRAINING IN BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY & PSYCHOTHERAPY
Buddhist Psychology Distance Learning Programmes
ON-LINE COURSES IN BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY & PSYCHOTHERAPY
Buddhism has been exploring human process for 2500 years. Its radical understanding of the conditioned nature of self presents a vibrant perspective in which the radiance of experience is discovered by dismantling the limiting frameworks which our self-focused interpretations and expectations create. The dualistic separation of self and other is challenged.
On the basis of this understanding, Tariki Trust presents training and psychotherapy in a model known as Other Centred Approach. This model offers a framework for therapeutic engagement. Its orientation is towards the exploration of our relatedness to others. The person is contextualised in their experiential and perceptual world. In this model, the conditioned view, foundation of the identity, is brought into question and becomes open to modification. At the same time, others, whether human or environmental, bring fresh experience.
Tariki Trust offers training in this model both through attendance courses and by distance learning programmes. Whilst a full training in Other Centred psychotherapy requires attendance in person, for those with a general interest, or for practising counsellors and psychotherapists who wish to integrate a Buddhist model into their work, the distance learning programmes are available online. These programmes form part of the Diploma in Counselling programme, but are complete in themselves as stand-alone courses.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Courses are offered as Modules or Units. A unit lasts a month. A module is equivalent to three units and lasts three months. The core modules are offered at specific times of the year and must be taken in sequence, i.e. module one must be completed before module two is started. Other units are open access and may be taken any time. Available units are listed below.
Because different participants have different needs, the distance learning programme is designed to offer flexibility. Students may choose to sign up for two years of study, but it is also possible to select which units you wish to study and so pace your study over a longer period or choose to study particular aspects of the subject if you wish.
TWO YEAR SEQUENCE
For Tariki students on the Counselling Diploma it is necessary to complete the two year programme which consists of four modules and six units (eighteen units in total). The modular structure of the course allows some flexibility around timing and duration of study as each 'year' can be spread over two academic years if necessary. A pre-payment structure ensures that students can complete the full requirement at a reasonable rate. This two year 'package' may be used by other members of the public who wish to study with Tariki. In the latter case, non-diploma students who take the year 'package' will take the two first year modules, but are able to choose any three optional learning units if they wish.
MODULES & LEARNING UNITS
The following list shows modules and units currently available. Units may be taken individually at any time. Modules must be taken sequentially i.e. students must complete module one before applying for module two. It is possible to sign up for either without needing to take the full two year sequence.

Module Two: The Constructed Self (March - May)
Module Three: Working with Other-Centred Approach (October - December)
Module Four: Ethics and Society (March - May)
