Chapel in the Garden, Bridport: systemic and family constellations

What is systemic constellations?

Systemic constellations is also known as family constellations. This is an experiential (sensing and feeling) process that reaches into the underlying, often hidden impulses within your family system that can hold you back in your life. These dynamics may be inherited from your family, previous generations, society or how events in history may have impacted your family structure. While we receive many good things from our families, we are also vulnerable to carrying transgenerational burdens, emotions, beliefs, and traumas that may still inhibit our potential to make the most of ourselves and our relationships today.

What systemic constellations aims to give you

It is to help you find ways to begin to restore the flow of love within your family system. Systemic and family constellations allow you not only to see and feel the dynamic you may be caught up in, but also help to identify better solutions with the ability to free yourself in a way that no other process can. This takes place in a safe, brief process that will take about an hour and seeks to help you find change and a new perspective to support you in deepening your development and potential in your life now.

In this way, systemic and family constellations offer a holding space for deep respect and love; compassion and humanity, through acknowledging reality, reaffirms place, ancestry, connection and belonging in your life. This can help you in letting go of burdens and patterns of behaviour that may not belong to you and hold you back. The work's intention is to help you to arrive into yourself and fulfil your potential as a human, partner, parent, child, member of the community with healthy dignity and purpose in life.

What to expect

The work is confidential. In the workshop we will sit or stand in a circle with a group of up to 20 people, usually groups are much smaller of about 6-12 people and in many cases are smaller still of 4-6 people.

The facilitator will invite individuals to take turns in looking at their own issues. The facilitator will invite you to choose individual group members within the circle as representatives for the issue, symptoms or people involved in the situation you would like to explore further.

The facilitator will help you identify where you would like the representatives to be placed spatially from each other. When this takes place, representatives start to feel sensations within their bodies that relate to your family system. The facilitator will help you see the dynamic by carefully checking in with each representative in your constellation. As such, representatives feel and often say words or sentences that are at play within your family system.

The facilitator will check in with you to help you begin to identify a different dynamic. This is done by seeing if it is possible to move the representatives, to see if this can have a different outcome, to restore the flow of love within the issue you wanted to explore within your family.

What to bring

Bring something warm to wrap yourself in, as it can get a bit chilly in the Chapel despite the summer, and also bring a water bottle.
