This 3-hour live online training offers a trauma-informed and relational approach to supporting female survivors of sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse.

Designed as CPD for therapists, counsellors, trainee therapists, support workers and helping professionals, the training explores practical considerations when working with survivors, with a particular focus on responding to disclosures, creating relational safety, supporting autonomy and using language thoughtfully.

Topics covered will include:

  • responding to disclosures and staying at the client's level
  • creating relational safety, trust and emotional containment
  • understanding trauma responses, shame and self-blame
  • considering language, terminology and the wider context of VAWG
  • recognising power dynamics, consent and manipulation
  • supporting client choice, autonomy and boundaries
  • avoiding the recreation of harmful relational dynamics within professional relationships

The training combines psychoeducation, practical guidance, reflection and discussion, with opportunities to consider how the learning may apply to your own professional practice.

The workshop aims to help attendees develop greater confidence, awareness and sensitivity when supporting survivors, including greater confidence in responding to disclosures and recognising how our language and professional responses can influence a survivor's sense of safety.

The training will take place live online via Zoom, and places will be limited to maintain an interactive learning environment.

No prior specialist training in sexual violence is required.
