Sibling grief support group: claiming the right to your grief
When you lose a sibling, your grief can be complicated by changes in your family, your role, your identity and your place within the family.
Sibling loss can be a particularly complex experience. You may find yourself grieving while also navigating the changes above. Hidden expectations can feel like you do not have a right to fully grieve your loss, a sense that your grief has been overlooked or that your loss is not seen as significant as others within your family.
This 6-week therapeutic support group offers a safe and confidential space for people who have experienced sibling loss to come together, share their experiences and connect with others who understand.
Across the six sessions, we will explore:
- how sibling loss can be different from other forms of bereavement;
- talking about and expressing grief;
- changes in family roles following sibling loss;
- the uniqueness of your grief and challenging ideas about “normal” grief;
- owning your story;
- living alongside your grief and moving forward.
The group is an opportunity to share, connect and be heard, without having to explain your grief to people who may not understand the experience of losing a sibling.
