CPCAB level 6 certificate in counselling supervision
The qualification is regulated and awarded by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) and is designed to give learners the knowledge, skills, and competencies to provide clinical supervision for counselling practitioners. It is aimed at counsellors who have acquired sufficient client work experience to contemplate the move into a clinical supervision role.
The qualification is designed to lead to an employed or voluntary role as a clinical counselling supervisor in a counselling agency or in independent practice. Supervision is an ongoing professional requirement for all practising counsellors and those with a recognised qualification are more likely to find employment.
The theoretical orientation of the qualification is Pluralistic (Cooper & McCleod, 2007), which is a collaborative, integrative perspective, deeply rooted in humanistic and person-centred values. Its fundamental premise is that each client is unique, and therefore may need different things from therapy. This same concept can be applied to the supervisory relationship and allows for a responsive and fluid approach to supervisee needs.
