Alongside our four-part series, Clinical Implications of Personality Organisation, TR Together is offering a unique opportunity for practising clinicians to join Dr Nancy McWilliams for a small online clinical supervision group following each lecture.
Designed to bring Dr McWilliams’ thinking into direct conversation with clinical practice, these sessions will create a reflective space in which participants can explore the themes in the lectures through detailed case discussion.
Across the lecture series, McWilliams will examine depressive and self-defeating personality organisations; hysterical, histrionic, post-traumatic and dissociative psychologies; schizoid and paranoid psychologies; and narcissistic and psychopathic psychologies. The supervision groups will offer an opportunity to think more deeply about how these different personality organisations and dynamics may present within the consulting room, and what they might mean for therapeutic technique.
In the first session, Dr McWilliams will bring a clinical case for the group to consider together, offering participants an opportunity to observe how she approaches case formulation and thinks through the clinical material.
For the following three sessions, participants will be invited to bring their own anonymised clinical cases for discussion with Dr McWilliams and discussion within the group. Cases may raise questions around personality organisation, therapeutic stance, transference and countertransference, defensive processes, treatment challenges, or other areas of clinical uncertainty.
These sessions are intended to be participatory rather than lecture-based, creating a consistent and engaged group of clinicians who can think together about the realities and complexities of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic practice.
Places will be limited and offered via application to ensure a clinically appropriate and committed supervision group.
