AI is becoming part of our clients’ lives, whether or not we use it ourselves. Clients may be turning to chatbots for advice, reassurance, emotional support or help making sense of their experiences. As therapists, we need space to consider what this means for our work and how to respond thoughtfully.

AI and Ethics in Private Practice is a live, three-hour online CPD session for counsellors and psychotherapists. Following the in-person training in London, this online session brings together case examples, discussion and practical guidance to help you navigate the ethical questions around AI.

We’ll explore:

  • How clients are using AI and how to discuss this within the therapeutic relationship.
  • Potential benefits and risks, including inaccurate information, reassurance-seeking and emotional reliance on chatbots.
  • Confidentiality, informed consent and boundaries around AI use in your own practice.
  • How to retain professional judgement and responsibility when using AI.
  • The THINK framework, a practical structure for working through ethical decisions.

You don’t need technical knowledge or experience of using AI. The session is relevant whether you’re already using it, considering it, or supporting clients who are.
