About me

Welcome: Just by exploring these counselling pages you’ve already taken a significant step towards achieving the changes you may desire.

My approach: I believe that everyone longs to feel validated and accepted. Yet sharing our innermost thoughts may feel unnerving, overwhelming, and sometimes even shameful.  I strongly believe that exploring our private worlds with a trusted counsellor, at the right pace, can repair complex problems and resolve long-standing issues.

Some enter counselling to free themselves from anxiety and depression. Others need to work through a bereavement, resolve conflicts with their partner, or to heal from a past, painful episode. Maybe old coping strategies no longer soothe and comfort, and you need to forge solutions that are effective and useful.

What happens? : Through the process of counselling we will explore together various options in a safe environment focused on achieving your aims.

Mostly we will engage in talk therapy. We will start by meeting every week for 50 minutes either in person, or via Zoom, whatever is more convenient for you. I recommend starting with six sessions, followed by a review to gauge how things are going.

I am non-prescriptive and work with each client on their own terms. Whether you are single, newly together, or in a long-term relationship, my approach is non-judgement as I respond to your specific needs and wishes. I work as a facilitator and guide to help you discover your own solutions. You will find me a compassionate, active listener, and if asked, can offer my own ideas and thoughts.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am trained in a number of different modalities (Gestalt, Parts work, Mentalization Based Therapy). So interested clients can use the therapy space in creative and unexpected ways – to rehearse conversations; to resolve conflicts with family members, even those who may no longer be available; perhaps engaging in dialogue with a self-critical voice, or other aspect of themselves.

I bring a lifetime of experience to the counselling room and adapt my approach to suit the needs of each client.

You will find me warm and compassionate, and ready to offer my opinion and insights. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable talking and working with me, and challenged, if need be.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

In order to move forward we will explore your current world and discover how your past may be influencing your present.

Primarily we will engage in ‘talk therapy’. In our first session I'll learn more about you, what you want to achieve, and you can experience how we work together.

I might suggest a range of tools that you  can practice at home if that is helpful.
