About me

I am a qualified and experienced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy counsellor.

CBT is a proven talking therapy. Ideal for supporting a vast range of challenges. I work with all ages and can offer traditional face-to-face sessions. Located in my heated Shepards hut. This is at the foothills of the Wrekin on our smallholding, offering views of our sheep and ponies, and across Shropshire. Taking in the Welsh Hills, Haughmond Hill, Hawkstone and more.

In addition to traditional sitting and talking sessions, I also offer Equine Assisted Counselling. During these sessions clients access CBT while engaging with a pony. Grooming and touching. They are benefiting from their calming and regulating influence.

I am particularly familiar with working with clients who have neurodiverse needs. My experience is from both a lived and working perspective. I have may years of experience working with young people and adults with needs such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia.

My journey to counselling has been a roundabout route. I originally trained at Harper Adams and practised as a Rural Practise Chartered Surveyor.

I am married with three teenage children, all who have neurodiverse needs. The need for flexible working led me to retrain and establish an Equine Therapy and Counselling service.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I also hold a full DBS, and therefore able to work with young or vulnerable people.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

CBT is a talking therapy based around the interactions of Thoughts, Feelings, Behaviours and Emotions. These can create a negative spiral perpetuating a trapped and stuck situation. As a CBT counsellor my role is to explore with my clients their negative thought, feelings and behaviours that are maintaining their current situation. Together we then can explore how to interrupt this negative spiral and enable movement to a different thought process.

CBT therapy is usually carried out as short term work. Somewhere around 6-20 sessions. I aim for clients to develop tools and understanding that enables them to help themsleves going forward. This way they are armed with ways to meet future challenges.
