About me

Val Bews an experienced psychotherapist/Counsellor, MBACP / EMDR therapist

Are you living life to it's full... or do you feel there are certain issues or difficulties in your life holding you back?

Sometimes life can be pressured and stressful, and working through painful events can help us understand why we may feel stuck or unfulfilled at times.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, working in this field for over 35 years, using Integrative Psychotherapy/Counselling and EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing), when treating complexed psychological trauma. I work with clients both long and short term according to the client’s needs.

If you are experiencing anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, bereavement and panic disorder or have something that is causing you distress or worry, I can help you make sense of the issues that are causing you concern. I have experience in helping adults and young people to improve their lives and relationships with others.

I offer a friendly, professional, confidential supported environment to enable you to reflect upon your current situation and consider any issues that may arise or choose to change. I strongly believe you are not an empty vessel and have all the answers to your problems.  I also believe in the power of a good connection between two people, to enable you to unlock your potential and find courage, confidence, inspiration, success and happiness.

Together we can work through patterns of behaviour, thoughts or feelings that have caused conflict and continue to limit your experience of life. We will explore ways in which you are managing your life, and the impact this has on the quality of your life. By doing this, it will enhance your level of self-awareness and help gain a deeper understanding of your own self. The therapy will support you to gain the skills needed to achieve what you want from life and gain freedom from old unwanted belief systems that may be holding you back from becoming the true you.

I'm passionate that we make the most of our lives, and believe that we owe it to ourselves, and others around us, to be happy. It is my personal experience that the process of psychotherapy can make this happen.

I am a member of the BACP and thereby work in accordance with their ethical framework.

My Counselling & Psychotherapy experience is varied and includes:

  • complexed traumas
  • relationship issues
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • stress related issues
  • low self-esteem and lack of confidence
  • sexual abuse
  • bereavement and loss
  • work related issues
  • bullying
  • young people

I have a wide range of experience of working within the social care sector as a youth counsellor, Social Worker and in Senior Management. Over the last 33 years I have specialised in Children and Families safeguarding and child protection. I have managed Adult Mental Health, Homelessness and Drug & Alcohol Services, working with some of the most vulnerable people in society. My passion was working as a full time Youth Counsellor in one of Liverpool’s largest city Centre projects, supporting young people to share their problems and experience being listened to for the first time. I have also worked as a counsellor in doctor’s surgeries, on residential recovery programs and women’s charitable organisations.

I provide three private practices in the North West;

  • Manchester institute for psychotherapist all day Wednesday including nights
  • Formby Flexible in the week including Saturday am
  • Rodney St Liverpool City Centre all day Friday & Tuesday including nights

Rodney street is noted for its Georgian architecture. It is sometimes known as the 'Harley Street of the North' and has a fantastic repetition for expert practitioners in a variety of expertise.

Manchester institute for psychotherapist is well established in the north west for being the only institute delivering Transactional Analysis training and psychotherapy.

Why not book a no-obligation 15 minute telephone consultation, you can ask the questions you need answers to, and I'll explain what I can do to help you overcome your current difficulties.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
