About me

If you are looking for an experienced counsellor with a range of skills, let's talk! I offer a no-cost first meeting of fifty minutes as it is important that we both feel we can work together.

After our meeting, YOU decide whether we continue., I will not 'follow-up'. Should I not hear from you within two weeks, any brief notes I have made, I will shred and the only note of our meeting is the entry in my diary.

I aim that all psychotherapy should have a positive outcome for my clients and helping them to identify where we should work. We are often active in sessions trying techniques and learning new skills to manage a life differently or developing a new way of looking at an issue. I encourage my clients to build a healthy, safe, independent life style. There is always a place to talk and talking is powerful therapy. You and I often add some "doing" as well!

Anxiety, stress and Post Trauma (I am a trained EMDR Therapist), are three areas that have occupied my professional life for many years. Relationships, couples work and bereavement are also areas of my work.

For over twenty-five years I have worked within and for many different workplaces and with clients from all walks of life and work: from Police, Emergency Services, Prisons, NHS, International Banks and Finance, Law Firms, IT, Charities, The Church, to smaller companies and organisations such as charities. They each have different characteristics and yet, sadly, similar themes: stress, workplace relationships, frustration, work-life balance 'What now?' and issues that may challenge the client's integrity and moral framework. These conditions respond well to inter-active work as well as talking through to a point of better understanding and may be a decision about "What next?"

Sometimes life feels unbearable; talking to someone who is not in the midst of your "thick of it" can be eye opening. Let off steam slowly and safely!

I welcome people of all Cultures, Ethnicity, Belief, background and Life Experience. I do not work with Addictions or with Children or young women and men under eighteen.

I hope I am LGBT+ friendly. I aim to be.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

My Fees are - General Counselling:

Currently most of my work is by phone/Video Link such as ZOOM/TEAMS/FaceTime (if you have an iPhone/iMac, DUO (if Android). I have no problem in working this way and it is as good (but different) to face-2-face. I have been using the telephone to counsel for 25+ years.

£60/Session of 1 hour.

£80/session if we are working with Trauma Therapy such as EMDR; I charge  as I work within a1½ hour time frame. Trauma therapy needs both time and space.

Couples Work: £75/session of 1 hour.

If we are meeting Face-2-Face, I expect my clients to pay an extra £5/session to meet the cost of the Rooms. I am very particular about the rooms I use. They need to be clean, nicely furnished, well-maintained, not covered in schmaltzy "Well-Being" posters/pictures and with mobility impaired access. My venues meet my criteria. Currently I am meeting Face-2-Face clients in Shrewsbury (Shropshire) in lovely rooms that meet my criteria. I am planning to extend further venues soon.

At any one time, I offer two low cost places (£10/session) counselling sessions of 10 sessions with me. I ask commitment as two 'Did Not Attends" and I need to end it.

I expect my clients to pay before attending (I will give my bank details for you to make the payment in advance or, I am happy to invoice companies/organisations monthly PROVIDING I have a signed letter of authority from the relevant organisation. If a client approaches me, and tells me this story, I will need the organisations address and contact details and I will follow up with named referee before I deliver the service. DNAs - 'Did not Attend' with less than 24 hours notice, I expect you to pay the full fee
