About me
I am a therapeutic counsellor, working with adults and young people with various mental and emotional challenges including anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, low self-esteem and relationship problems.
What's the problem
- Often the problem is that I don't know what the problem is.
- I feel stuck. I am repeating past mistakes and following the same old patterns.
- Sometimes I do know what the problem is and what it's about, but I'm unable to feel any different.
- I want to move on, but don't know how. I want something to change. What's stopping me?
- I need a safe place to face the difficulties in my life and understand where they have come from.
Life is sometimes troublesome, but we usually find ways to manage and adapt to our circumstances and to get along with the people in our lives. Sometimes, not all of the strategies we use and adaptations we make are healthy for us, we reach the limit of our flexibility and, something gives. This may happen suddenly or over time, until we find our manoeuvring no longer works for us.
Why might you benefit from working with me?
Talking to someone who is supportive and fully on our side regardless of what we are going through and how we present ourselves can bring great relief and hope. I am a qualified and accredited therapeutic counsellor who has a humanistic, person-centred approach to therapy. This means that I believe the strength of the client-therapist relationship is the key which opens the potential for healing and growth.
Building such a relationship involves a shared understanding of how a person thinks and feels about themselves, their world, upbringing and beliefs. I work to understand with a person more than to understand about them. However, it is by actively exploring and facing our feelings that we start to experience relief from our predicament and become open to the possibility of growth.
This healing starts at an emotional level, before we can intellectually grasp how it is happening and can require a leap of faith, especially for those of us who live in our heads. The achievement of this takes courage and trust which is why I place the therapeutic relationship in such high regard.
When our ideal self and our current self image begin to align, it starts to become possible for us to see and believe we can reach our full potential.
I believe we need to feel useful, that our lives are meaningful and that we have a purpose. My purpose is to help you find yours, so that you can be comfortable with yourself and make choices that move you nearer to the person you want to be.
