About me

I am best contactable via the "Email me" tab on this Webpage. Due to other commitments, I am unavailable to take calls that are not pre-booked. I am available to deliver sessions Weekdays 9:30am - 9 pm

Hi, I’m Nafeesa.

I’m a warm and friendly Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 10 years’ experience. I have been trained in a range of counselling approaches, but first and foremost I am a person-centred counsellor.

This means that whilst I will bring all my experience and skills to our sessions, the session focuses on you, and you are treated as the expert in your own life. I will not diagnose you, or judge you. You will be supported in exploring your issues and addressing them in a way that works for you.

My Approach

I am passionate about offering a supportive and non-judgemental environment to people where they can exist, be heard and explore their issues.

From experience, I hear that many people struggle to find a counsellor who ‘gets them’, understands their unique experiences, or that they click with. This can put people off seeking help, and is something I aim to change.

With me, you can expect a counsellor who is always warm, friendly, professional and is truly passionate about supporting you to make changes you feel are right for you. As a strong advocate for racial and gender equality, I believe in empowering people to find their voice to be heard, and this is embedded across my practice.

As a practitioner, I engage with the latest research and training and consistently develop my practice accordingly. I have advanced knowledge of complex issues such as domestic abuse, violence, addiction, relationships (family and partnerships) and mental health diagnosis.

I also have extensive experience working with people who are questioning their sense of belonging. This looks different for everyone, but I have become very experienced working with people who require support with aspects of identity relating to culture, race, religion, gender or sexuality.

Working with adults:

I specialise in working with trauma, but this can feel different to everyone. If you’ve been through something, or are currently going through something that is having an impact on you – I can help.

I’ve worked with adults from all walks of life including genders, sexualities, cultures and religions.

I also have experience working with an older client base, including on issues relating to domestic abuse, cultural expectations, reflecting back on their lives and looking forward to the future.

I welcome clients of any age to get in touch for a free initial chat, to see if I can offer support in a way that works for you.

Working with children and young people:

From working with domestic abuse survivors and children in care for 10 years, I have an advanced understanding complex issues that young people are going through, and can adapt my practice accordingly.

I am qualified to work with children and young people aged 5-18 years old, and have worked with children at multiple different development stages.

If you are concerned about a child or young person in your life, and want to reach out for professional, specialised support, please do get in touch.

They’ll be met with a warm, friendly face, who will give them space to explore their issues in a way that works for them.

This may include, but not limited to – recovering from domestic abuse, concerns about behaviour, bullying, questioning their identity, rebelling or anxiety and/or depression.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 10 years’ experience working with adults and children and young people (aged 5-18 years).

I am trained in Person Centered therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), the Psychodynamic Approach and have recently completed training in Trauma Informed Therapy and working with Adverse Childhood Experiences in both adults and children.

I have worked with people of all ages who have experienced complex trauma, PTSD and domestic violence. I have also worked with young carers, looked after children, adults and young people with a mental health diagnosis, addiction and survivors of domestic abuse.

I also have experience delivering therapy in intergenerational group settings, leading community support work and delivering courses in emotional resilience, parenting, behaviour change and anger management.

  • Certificate in Clinical Supervision

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
