About me

A warm welcome to my profile.

I understand that you might be feeling apprehensive about the possibility of counselling and finding the right counsellor for you. Let me share a little about myself and see if it resonates with you…..

I am a Person Centred counsellor. I help and support my clients to help and support themselves. It’s really important to me to try and understand exactly how you’re feeling. I do this by listening to you to gain an understanding of your world but crucially, from your own perspective. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to talk and explore your thoughts. l endeavour to always be open and honest with you, as l believe trust is key to building a strong therapeutic relationship that will help empower you with the issues you are facing. It is most important to me that you feel heard, understood and supported in your therapy with me and that you build a strong sense of your own autonomy to help you tackle difficult decisions in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy(BACP). This means l am practicing at the professional level required by this organisation and that l have to work within their strict ethical framework, which prioritises the safety and wellbeing of every client. This will l hope, give you reassurance.

The majority of my experience has been with a charity where l have seen clients who are suffering from a wide range of issues including bereavement, self harm, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, childhood trauma, stress and low self esteem. I have also had experience of seeing clients in a post 18 education setting to support them with issues such as parental abuse, relationship breakups, work stress, and sexual abuse.

As part of my ongoing development as a counsellor and my commitment to my clients, l regularly undertake CPD (Continuing Professional Development).

I also see a qualified supervisor once a month to talk through some of the issues my clients are facing, while always keeping the identity of these clients completely confidential at all times.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
