Pauliina Pohjonen - BSc, MA, (MBACP).
30-32 Worple Road, Wimbledon
My name is Pauliina. I am a British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist working in private practice in South West London.
Therapy is for anyone going through difficult times, whether this is due to problems in relationships, stresses at work, death of someone close to you, or struggles with health or perhaps having feelings of sadness and anxiety and not really knowing why this might be.
Therapy offers you a space to talk about your difficulties without judgement.Together we can identify the issues that have become problematic for you and think about how they are impacting your life and well-being. We can consider how you currently cope, working through what is and what might not be so helpful. We will explore your strengths and new ways of doing things, enabling you to cope effectively.
In my view, therapy is an intensely collaborative process. Whilst I bring my training, expertise and experience to the process, I am of the firm conviction that you are the expert on you. You do know what is right for you and you do, invariably, know what you need to do in order to achieve your goals. Only you know what things really feel like inside of yourself, what kinds of thoughts you think and what you wish for and desire. I make effective use of your internal processes by combining them with my experience.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and a BSc in Nursing. I have worked as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist for the past eight years. I come from a 15 year specialist nurse-counselling career, having worked in variety of NHS adult mental health services.
I am registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP). I am bound by codes and ethics of my professional body. My theoretical training is integrative and I make use of a wide range of current and relevant psychological models. I make effective use of the relationships I have with my clients; this is done with the firm belief that the thoughts and feelings they have with me will have occurred in other relationships they have (both past and present). I am influenced by Object Relations and Attachment Theories. Lastly, I have good working knowledge of CBT and can utilise these techniques according to the individual needs of my client. I maintain my training by regularly attending relevant and current training courses. I hold a special interest in the formation of early attachment and the implications of this on later functioning. I am also very invested in the study of the impact of trauma on peoples’ psyches.
