About me

Hi, I'm Stephanie, and I'd like to help you experience a more fulfilling life. At the moment, there is so much emphasis and pressure on people to achieve and be productive every day, to strive towards visible high standards constantly, to the point of exhaustion. Are you highly critical of yourself? Do you find yourself unable to try new things in case you fail? Do you focus on ways to improve things about yourself that other people can see & validate - your appearance, your body shape, your job, studies and even hobbies? Do you find yourself unable to switch off and relax? Expect things of yourself that you never would of others?

I work with people aged 18-75+ who are struggling to find satisfaction in their lives. I specialise in work around eating disorders (BED, AN, BN, orthorexia & ARFID) but I recognise that in the UK we have a generally disordered relationship with food and our bodies, and feeling unworthy as we are. I believe in the principles of Health At Every Size (HAES).

If you would like to start learning how to manage that negative voice in your head which tells you nothing you do is good enough, please get in touch, and together we can start to look at the origins of your worries and coping mechanisms and to look forward towards a more fulfilling and self-accepting life. You deserve to feel worthy and safe.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked extensively as an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor since 2015, and specialising in disordered eating and body image issues since 2018, working with an eating distress charity based in the North East of England, as well as private clients, giving one on one counselling and hosting workshops around body image and self esteem. I believe that the treatment of eating issues and body concerns in the UK is still very misunderstood – the general tide of diet culture and normalisation of disordered eating habits and restrictive dieting has created a multitude of issues that may fly under the radar, being perceived as “okay” or even praised – when the person remains trapped by constant planning, bargaining and compensatory behaviour such as exercising heavily to punish themselves for “over-eating”.

I have been a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy since 2018, and I completed a certification with the Online Therapy Institute in July 2020, in order to conduct video counselling as safely and securely as possible.

My additional studies have focused around eating disorders, with additional interest in the relationship between disordered eating and neurodivergence. I have undertaken further training in Understanding ADHD & achieved the Level 2 qualification Understanding Autism

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
