About me
Hello, I’m Sophie and I offer face to face and online counselling sessions in North Shields.
I offer a warm space for adults experiencing anxiety, overthinking, people pleasing, low self-esteem, or feeling stuck in life. Together we can explore and untangle patterns, process emotions, challenge unhelpful thinking, and find ways forward that feel more manageable.
My style is gentle and thoughtful. I enjoy using a mix of exploratory reflection, and bringing in theory, education and creative interventions. I personally find structure and visuals helpful in therapy, particularly for anxiety and overthinking. My clients have described me as kind, warm, easy to talk to, and non-judgemental.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am BACP registered and qualified from the Northern Guild of Psychotherapy & Counselling. I have worked in the charity and healthcare sectors with people of all ages, from all walks of life, working with depression, anxiety, attachment issues, grief and loss, trauma, childhood bullying, chronic illness and terminal diagnoses, social anxiety, mother-daughter relationships, and more.
Before retraining as a counsellor I worked in HR and supported people in the workplace with challenges including stress, disputes, conflict mediation, workplace adjustments, and confidence coaching. I have a very good awareness of how mental health can manifest in the workplace.
My therapeutic approach is integrative, which means I pull from different modalities and tailor my approach to what you need, whether that is space to explore, or something more structured. If you don’t know type of counselling you would benefit from, we can discuss this together as part of an assessment.
I am person-centred, which means my core belief is that everyone has an inherent capacity for growth and self-healing. My clients have described me as kind, warm, easy to talk to, and non-judgemental.
I offer a free introductory phonecall to understand what is going on for you, and chat about how counselling could help. This call is as much for you as it is for me and there is no pressure to book in for a session afterwards if you decide not to.
If you decide to go ahead we would begin with a 50 minute assessment session.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
