About me

Hello I can now offer you face to face counselling following the recent government guidelines that are actively in place for the safety of myself and my clients.

My name is Sonya Price and am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and  specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I use my CBT approach to adapt it to my clients needs with regards to the individuals presenting issue. Sometimes our life experiences can often impact our own mental health and well-being and may leave us feeling anxious and intense. CBT works with feelings and emotions in situations that can often affect our behaviour. As your therapist we can work together to develop a therapeutic and confidential relationship in a safe environment. The aim of the therapy sessions is to work collaboratively with an agenda to set a goal and develop some coping strategies which will enable you to move forward with your future. If you feel this therapy is for you, reach out and get in touch today.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have gained 25 years of experience in the care profession working with Neurological disorders, Dementia and End of Life care. I have supported individuals and families during these difficult times. I completed my Foundation Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in August 2019. I studied Health and Social care level 3 in 2005 and then became a Care Practitioner level 5. This is what inspired me to become a counsellor and psychotherapist.

I am currently volunteering at Myton Hospice working with families and their loved ones going through Loss and Bereavement which can be a traumatic time for everyone. Exploring these emotions and feelings in your own time helps with the process of bereavement which then enables you to have an understanding of what you are experiencing.

I also deliver counselling with Age UK for individuals at local GP surgeries in Leamington spa. I take referrals and work with mental health and well-being with presenting issues such as Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Trauma, Social Anxiety, Cultural Differences, Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
