About me

*Currently offering online sessions only*

With such a huge selection of counsellors to choose from, how do you pick one who is right for you? I think finding a good match is important, so I offer a free 30 min introductory session which gives you the chance for us to meet online and see if you think we would work well together, before you commit to booking any sessions.

We are all such unique individuals, with very different personalities and life experiences; through my Person-Centred approach I offer a warm and collaborative therapeutic relationship, focusing on the unique needs of each individual client, creating a space where you can openly explore your fears or concerns, increase your understanding of yourself, process trauma, loss or life changes and in turn move to a less distressing place in your life.

I have over 18 years' experience of working as a counsellor and am a qualified counselling supervisor. I also have experience of teaching counselling skills and managing a counselling service.

Over the years I have worked with a wide range of clients, in my practice everyone is welcome!  I have a lot of experience of working with issues around gender and sexuality.  I understand the complexities of growing up in a heteronormative & cisnormative society and just how important it is to have a safe and accepting therapy space for LGBTQ+ and gender diverse clients.

After 25 years living in Brighton I have recently made a huge decision to relocate to North Yorkshire. Although there are many things that I am sure I will miss about Brighton, I am delighted to have been able to "virtually" take many of my clients and supervisees with me and that we can continue our work together via Zoom.

Although I am looking forward to making new connections with clients and supervisees from the North Yorkshire area and across the UK, I hope that my connection to Brighton and its wonderfully diverse population (that I have felt very much a part of for many years) will remain strong.

What some clients have said about working with me:

Sonia's friendly attitude and ability to make me feel comfortable when talking about problems was most helpful; encouragement when and where required.  I found it personally very helpful in moving forward.

I would absolutely recommend Sonia to others, she has enabled me to fully explore my life and way of being in a completely safe and accepting environment.

Sonia is clearly a very experienced counsellor. She immediately made me feel at ease and I always left the session feeling like I'd moved a bit further out of my confusion and distress.

I initially came for support through a difficult time (relationship breakup), but the sessions helped me to release and resolve much deeper and long-standing issues. I feel like a new person!

I felt safe, heard, respected and understood.  It was a fantastic experience having counselling with Sonia and she really helped me explore what I wanted to look at in a kind gentle and friendly way.

I have made so many positive changes and found resources I didn't know I had during my time in counselling with Sonia. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a counsellor to work with.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
