About me

Hello my name is Shirley

Here at VIP both in Grangemouth and Stirling, I offer child centred play and creative arts therapies and counselling for children and young people aged 3-15 in a warm, safe, and nurturing environment.

Through play, creativity, talking and evidence-based approaches, children can explore their feelings, work on their emotional difficulties, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies at their own pace. Through the use of toys, art, sand, role play, or talking your child can explore what is going on for them

Adolescents and teens can be happy to talk about what is troubling them, however if they feel unable to do so we can able to use creative techniques such as sand tray work, art, clay and sport to help support them to express themselves and their feelings in a different way.

I work with children experiencing a wide range of challenges, including (but not exclusively) anxiety, low mood, anger, trauma, grief, school worries, family concerns and big life changes

I recognise the importance of the parents as the primary change agents in their child’s life and can offer guidance and support to help families better understand their child’s needs, strengthen connection at home, and feel more confident in their parenting abilities.

I am also a certified Sandstory Therapist and Mindfulness practitioner who draws on a range of approaches and modalities and can offer these as part of the play therapy process or stand alone pieces of work

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
