About me

A warm welcome -My name is Sheeraz, I’m a Person-Centred Therapist. I offer online and telephone counselling.

I believe in the importance and quality of the therapeutic relationship – this is where meaningful change is developed. By experiencing a safe connection where your feelings and emotions are heard and validated. As your therapist, it is a privilege to walk beside you in your therapeutic journey.

About me and my practice

Clients tell me I’m warm, supportive and easy to talk to. As therapy is all about the client/therapist relationship – this is where steps towards positive change are realised. I’m here to help you navigate your way through, uncovering your personal story and what brings you to counselling.

Are you a people pleaser?:-

  • Trying to balance work, climbing the career ladder whilst running a busy household.
  • The person in the family everyone relies on, partner, children perhaps you’re navigating life with elderly parents at home or in a care-home. Are you an elder or younger sibling noticing your role in the wider family.
  • Always juggling multiple tasks, some are simple and everyday – some feel huge overwhelming decisions.
  •  Feeling stuck on life’s hamster wheel. There’s no time for yourself, always putting others’ needs before your own.
  •  Navigating cultural expectations deeply rooted in family traditions and norms.
  •  Troubled by past event(s) and feel it’s time to talk about its impact on you.

Is this causing:-

  • Overwhelm, fear, anger, sadness and guilt
  • Struggling with sleep
  • Missing out on self-care activities
  • Feeling misunderstood, low self esteem

How can therapy help?

  • Whilst talking to friends and family can be helpful; we may hold back, fear judgement or not want to offend or burden others.
  • Talking to a trained therapist can bring new insights and may uncover familiar or unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviour.
  • Sessions are carried out at client’s own pace; each session starts with what you choose to bring.
  • The relationship with your therapist provides a safe equal bond to feel heard and validated; promoting self-discovery and personal growth.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an MA Clinical Counselling and am registered (MBACP) and accredited by the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). This means I follow an ethical and professional code of practice.

My core modality is Person-Centred. This means the client is the expert of their own life and is placed at the forefront of the work carried out in sessions. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment necessary for clients to find their way forward.

To compliment my core approach other modalities may be included in the session. These include Psychodynamic (gently exploring how past events have impacted), Parts work (used when feeling stuck & conflicted) and CBT (strategies to help manage overwhelming thoughts) Additional techniques used as appropriate.

As a trauma and neurodivergent informed therapist, I understand that deep seated emotional pain, including depression, anxiety and relational difficulties are often survival responses to overwhelming life events. My approach prioritises emotional safety, choice and autonomy above all else.

My previous experience in a counselling setting included offering both long and short-term therapy to unpaid carers (caring for their loved ones). I also have experience of working in adult health and social care in a previous career.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
