About me

Hello, I’m Shanna.

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor with over 10 years of counselling experience and almost two decades of working within mental health and wellbeing services.

Seeking support can feel like a big step, particularly when you’ve been carrying things on your own for a long time. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, low self-esteem, ADHD, relationship difficulties, past experiences, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, therapy can provide a space to pause, reflect, and begin making sense of what you’re going through.

As an integrative counsellor, I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Every person brings their own unique experiences, challenges and strengths. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), tailoring our work together to suit your individual needs and goals.

Alongside my private practice, I work within a university supporting students and staff through mentoring and ADHD coaching. I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent clients, including those with ADHD, helping them better understand themselves, navigate everyday challenges, develop practical strategies and build on their existing strengths. Many clients tell me that simply understanding how their mind works can be a powerful starting point for change.

My professional background spans substance misuse services, healthcare settings, charities and education, where I have worked with adults and young adults from a wide range of backgrounds. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation of the different ways life can impact our emotional wellbeing and sense of self.

I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and honestly without fear of criticism or expectation. Therapy is not about being told what to do. Instead, we work collaboratively, exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences with curiosity and compassion. Together, we can identify patterns, increase self-awareness, develop healthier ways of coping and work towards meaningful and lasting change.

My aim is to help you feel heard, understood and supported while building greater confidence, resilience and self-understanding. Whatever has brought you here, you do not have to face it alone.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
