Internal Family Systems Therapist, MBACP

About me

I am an Integrative Counsellor and an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist and I have worked in the private and charity sectors since 2013. I support and empower adults and adolescents (16+) to better understand their inner world and discover their own unique pathways to wellbeing.

"Sebastiana helped me during a particularly stressful time and gave me incredibly useful tools to cope and deal with what was going on around me. She’s gentle and empathic, and our sessions felt like a safe space to explore my inner parts, but also talk about the little difficulties of everyday life. After only a few months of therapy, I feel calmer, more grounded, and confident in my abilities to heal." IFS client

Challenges I can help with:

I primarily draw on Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS) to help people find, understand and heal aspects of themselves connected to the impact of childhood and relational trauma on their current relationships and how they relate to themselves. This includes emotional neglect, loss and grief, bullying, family alcoholism and addictions, adult children of emotionally immature parents and adults adopted or fostered as children. And anyone who struggles with self-criticism, anxiety and low mood, such as not feeling good enough, struggling with resentment, shame, self-doubt, overworking, perfectionism, people-pleasing and relational difficulties.

“Our inner parts contain valuable qualities and our core Self knows how to heal, allowing us to become integrated and whole.” Richard C. Schwartz, IFS founder

I also help immigrants, non-parents (childless) and queer people with challenges around identity issues, minority stress and loss and grief

I am committed to guiding my clients towards more self-compassion, clarity, wholeness and balance.

Life can be complex and challenging. We can't always choose our circumstances or our experiences. Sometimes we need additional support, beyond what our partner, friends or family can offer. My therapeutic work with both adults and adolescents focuses primarily on establishing a trusting relationship and a confidential, non-judgmental space. From here, you can explore and make sense of your past and present experiences, including different parts of yourself, at a pace that suits you and your goals.

Alongside my IFS work, I weave in my expressive arts and ecotherapy practices where appropriate. Ecotherapy is a form of therapy that invites you to create a nourishing, reciprocal relationship with the natural world and to feel part of the web of life. This deep partnership supports healing, finding one's purpose, meaning, a sense of belonging and wholeness. The natural world provides a wonderful container and resource for an exploration of one's own inner world, Self, soul and life story. I offer sessions both outdoors and indoors.

To get started, just send me an email stating whether you are looking for in-person or online sessions and where you are located. I will reply to let you know about my availability. I offer a free introductory 15-minute Google Meet call as an opportunity to meet and explore further.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy, Integrative Arts Child and Adolescent Counselling, Ecotherapy and as a Mindful Self-Compassion teacher. I am a registered member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I primarily draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, which is a non-pathologising and trauma-informed approach. IFS conceives of every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts led by a core natural or true Self. IFS allows you to get to know the different parts of you that help you through life, live within you and fulfill both healthy and unhealthy roles. Life events or trauma, however, can force us out of those healthy roles into extreme roles. IFS helps you to become more curious and accepting of those experiences and help parts to transform and heal.

You will learn at your pace and with my guidance tools and techniques that will facilitate deep connection with yourself and your parts and feel supported both in, in between the sessions and beyond.

In my sessions, your challenges can be worked with in a variety of ways – through talking, creativity, nature and spiritual connection and in the body.

I have 13 years of experience working as a therapist with adults from different backgrounds, as well as young people who suffered trauma, abuse and neglect and the system around them.

I am IFS™ Certified Therapist which demonstrates my commitment to meeting the standards of consultation, clinical practice, and ongoing education required for providing IFS therapy. An IFS Certified Therapist is dedicated to upholding ethical standards and staying engaged in continuing education.

I integrate Mindful Self-Compassion and Buddhist psychology into my individual therapy sessions with clients because of the practical psychological resources, therapeutic practices and accessible philosophical framework they offer that both clarify life's challenges and encourage good mental health.

My Ecotherapy (nature-based therapy) training enables me to work with individuals outdoors or bring the healing potential of nature to indoor sessions.

I support both adults and adolescents to develop more self-compassionate, mindful relationship to themselves and others and to recognise their needs, positive qualities and strengths. I can guide you to connect with your body, understand your nervous system and how to respond to stress, anxiety or low mood.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
