About me

Talking helps…. Where should we begin?

I’m a therapeutic counsellor and cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT). I love what I do and feel priviledged to work with the vulnerability which clients bring. I'm passionate about my work and the long term benefits of 'talking therapies' and am committed to making a positive difference to my client's lives.

Currently I am developing my private practice as the Southport Counselling Service.

I believe for human growth and happiness all we need to thrive is, to be seen, to be heard, to be loved.

Where appropriate, I integrate my therapeutic counselling and CBT. The choice, in terms of the ways in which you want to work and what you want to focus on, is yours. From a holistic approach I help clients create happier, fuller and more peaceful lives. I believe that we all know what’s best for ourselves. I love supporting clients and finding ways of working so that you can learn to best help yourself.

I offer an integrative approach using the two models above with warmth, empathy and respect where clients can explore personal & emotional issues in a safe, quiet and relaxing environment. I offer a confidential and non judgemental counselling working within the BACP Ethical Framework.

You may well be aware that you are stuck or unhappy in some way and yet feel powerless to change. It may seem impossible to move forward, yet the idea of staying in the exact same position in life is equally traumatic. Remaining stuck is to deny your authentic self, the part of you that knows and yearns for a better way to be.

Your self inquiry and the ability to sit with difficult emotions are at the heart of working collaboratively with me. It is my privilege to be with you as you explore the issues causing you distress. Together we explore to find your answers…open new doors for a deeper understanding of the joy of life.

Your unconscious mind has stored everything, every traumatic episode, humiliation, disappointment all the hurts and joys of life are stored, as if they happened only yesterday, the effect is that it can sometimes impact on your current behaviour in ways that are baffling and scary.  Your unconscious self may still be trying to win a mother's love, a part of you may still be trying to avoid the school bullies, crippling you now with social anxiety.  The trauma of growing up in a violent family may make you distrustful of others causing you to shut down and retreat, putting up barriers to keep safe, while ultimately keeping you separate.

The key aims of therapy are to connect you with your authentic self, the self that knows you are loved regardless of your mother's rejection. The part of you that is confident and happy, and accepts that sadly the bullies were probably fuelled by deep anger, sadness and self loathing.  Therapy aims to help you rediscover your lost emotions and connect them with your highest self that you may lovingly accept who you are now in order to live fully in the here and now.

Counselling can help you understand yourself better and the way you think, which will ultimately help you develop a clearer understanding of your problems. The more armed with information you are, the easier it gradually becomes to navigate your way through any difficulties you are facing so that eventually you can come out the other side feeling more positive. Counselling can also help you understand other people's point of view better, which can shed light onto the way you interpret words or actions.

My work is to journey with you, helping you connect with who you really are.

I understand that making the first appointment can be daunting. A free initial telephone coversation usually takes about 20 minutes and will give you a chance to see how comfortable you feel talking to me. It gives me a sense of whether or not I think I can support you at this time. We can explore what you would like to achieve in therapy. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

After this, we’ll usually agree to meet for an hour session, where we can cover what counselling involves and what you might expect from it and you can use the time to explore what brought you to counselling.

After that, for ongoing work, we will continue in blocks of 6 sessions, which will be periodically reviewed. We'll meet same time, same day each week unless we negotiate otherwise.

Individual counselling costs £35 per one hour session.
