About me

I believe everyone holds the answers to their own issues and relationships but sometimes need help and guidance in finding these answers. Talking to a trained therapist without any agenda other than trying to aid their client to find their way forward, enables the client to thoroughly explore their feelings, thoughts and emotions in a safe, contained and non judgemental way. I work with the person as a whole, not just the problem.

I come from a Person Centred background, however, I use my training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in my work where I feel it may be required and helpful for my client's process and progress.  I offer long term and short term work if that is what your needs require. We will agree that between us as the relationship is a joint collaborative one where counsellor and client work together towards the client's ultimate goal.
I offer evening sessions for convenience as well as usual working hours. I do not work  Saturdays.

I work with individuals and couples who may be experiencing difficulties in their relationships, themselves or whatever form they are.
I have worked extensively with children and adolescents and will often use art tools to aid the work. I will also use other methods such as art to aid all my clients - not just children. I now only work with children aged 12+.
CBT works particularly well for issues such as anxiety, OCD, depression, phobias and avoidance.

I originally trained as a counsellor after suffering a trauma in my life and I received counselling and came to understand how powerful and helpful it was. I decided as a result, to change career and leave working with children in an educational setting to concentrate on my training.
I now find that I am in a fantastic position of being able to work with children as well as adults using different techniques and strategies that are suitable for each person and situation.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
