About me

I am a qualified counsellor specialising in addiction offering one-to-one sessions, either in-person locally in Rugby, or online. I work with adults from the age of 18 years old.

I work from a person-centred foundation, and incorporate other approaches to tailor the therapy to you - taking into account where you have come from, where you are now, and where you desire to go. This stems from my personal standpoint that therapy is not a 'one-size-fits-all' solution but a unique journey of healing and resolution. I therefore trained in a variety of psychological approaches and interventions, enabling me to work with you on an individual basis.

I work directly with addictive behaviour through harm reduction and relapse prevention, as well as working with its root cause. I find that whether a person has an addiction or not, we are working with similar issues - it's the coping mechanism that is the difference. These issues may include difficulties around anxiety, anger, depression, bereavement, emotional regulation & suppression, stress, relationships, and self-esteem & confidence.

Training, qualifications & experience

I started my training to become a counsellor following my own therapeutic journey and a career spanning the care and homeless sectors. I found that no matter my role, people were desperate to be heard and I was willing and able to listen. Both personal and professional experiences fuelled in me a passion to help others in their healing journey.

As a result, I returned to study and achieved a Post-Graduate Diploma in Addiction Psychology and Counselling. I also have an undergraduate degree (BSc with honours) in Development Studies and an Advanced Diploma in Pastoral Care.

I have experience of working with adults and young people (18+ years old) and mental health difficulties such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and personality disorder.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
