About me

Hi, I'm Sam, a BACP registered (MBACP) counsellor and psychotherapist based in Plymouth, offering online counselling across the UK.

I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent clients, as well as supporting people through life transitions, identity and values work, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and the many challenges that come with simply being human.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working in a variety of roles including hospitality and retail management, Human Resources, employability and functional skills teaching, and within the justice system. Those experiences have given me the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and to understand that everyone's story is different.

One of the things I love most about this work is getting to know people and understanding what makes them who they are. I don't believe therapy is about fixing people. More often, it's about making sense of ourselves, understanding the patterns we find ourselves stuck in, reconnecting with what matters to us, and finding a way forward that feels authentic and sustainable.

I aim to offer a warm, collaborative, and non-judgemental space where you can bring whatever is going on for you. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, navigating change, struggling with relationships, questioning who you are, or simply feeling a bit lost, therapy can provide the space to pause, reflect, and explore things at your own pace.

I offer a free 30-minute online consultation so we can meet, talk about what brings you to therapy, and see whether we feel like a good fit for working together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
