About me

Hi I’m Sam, I’m offering one to one Person-centred counselling in nature.

Why nature?

It’s beautiful, peaceful and there’s nothing like being in the “great outdoors” to engage all your senses, which in turn help to relieve stress, tension and feel like you’ve ‘room to breathe’. Nature is naturally meditative - tuning into a bird singing (Holmbridge has a big curfew of curlews in the summer), focusing on the clouds, taking in the sky for as far as the eye can see and space in abundance. There’s room to think, room to breathe, room to talk.

When I had walking/talking therapy, I found it engaging being outside, easier to breathe, I could take time ‘out of my mind easier’. But, also, I was getting some exercise (which I felt I couldn’t make time for) along with my counselling, which made me feel even more accomplished in my personal goals. So much so that I wanted to be able to share it with others. My other personal counselling experiences had been in small offices. I found these experiences intimidating and claustrophobic. With this in mind, and us not all being the same, I believe counselling in nature can offer a great alternative to “traditional practise”. For those online, I will conduct the counselling from the outdoor space so you can still engage with being outside.

With accessibility and inclusivity in mind, here are a few options for therapy (Your therapy, your choice);

Walking and talking, sat outside in the open air, sat in my heated camper van ‘Daisy Boo’ with ‘the view’. Or video/audio call (I’ll still be in the outside counselling space conducting the call). What you choose can change. I’m flexible and wish to make the experience as friendly and welcoming as possible so you feel at ease. We can start on the phone, sitting or walking - working up to a walk or deciding to take a seat, the choice is yours.

The space is on private farmland, access to which I have, with permission from the owners. I felt private land would make the space feel more ‘safe’ and confidential, with there being less chance of “bumping into someone”.

A little about me

I’m a caring and compassionate individual with lived experience of complex PTSD which resulted in severe post and pre-partum anxiety whilst carrying and bringing up my babies. I was very lucky to have had crucial professional support through individuals, group work and workshops - resulting in me learning and understanding my condition intricately. My recovery ignited a passion in me for learning, more understanding and self-discovery. Resulting in wanting to help others with their internal struggles. I’ve completed my level 2, level 3 and level 4 studies in counselling, as well as various self development courses - listed below.

I’m a mother of 2 small children who challenge and bring me wonder anew daily, as well as giving me the ability to appreciate the beauty of life at its simplest level.

Training, qualifications & experience

My main experience is working as an adult counsellor within a charity crisis mental health service, which I did alongside my studying to gain experience for my qualification. However, I volunteered longer than my ‘needed’ hours, as I enjoyed the work there, being a small cog in a place that enriched people in abundance. I now work in private practise, with all types of people. I still also offer some voluntary time - I feel counselling should be accessible for all.
