About me

Hi my name's Ruth and I'm a MBACP registered integrative counsellor and Psychotherapist.  I offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore any issues, worries or concerns you may have. Its easy for issues to weigh heavy on our minds and start to overwhelm, causing anxiety and depression, especially if they stop us sleeping and getting rest.  As an integrative counsellor I don’t believe one model of counselling fits all, as everyone is an individual I feel therapy should be individually tailored to each client. Having a safe space, with an impartial, non-judgemental counsellor to confide in, can help us unpack what is happening for us.

You are the expert on you and the process of counselling can provide space, tools and understanding about why you behave and feel a certain way.  It can help to confront issues, no matter how big or small they may feel to you. The support of counselling sessions provides the courage to process feelings and emotions (which may have been buried) in order to better recognise and release them, allowing a healing process to take place and to become more conscious of patterns of behaviour, enabling change to ultimately live the life you desire.

I welcome short and longer term clients and have worked with people suffering from self esteem issues, PTSD, anxiety, relationship problems including emotion and/or physical abuse, personality disorders, depression, abuse including historic child sexual abuse. I feel the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is the integral part to therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
