About me

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor with more than twenty years of counselling experience, including thirteen years working in NHS services. I offer a quiet, confidential space where you can talk things through without judgement, pressure, or expectation, and begin to make sense of what you are going through.

I offer face-to-face counselling from  comfortable and secure counselling rooms in the Clarendon Park area in South Leicester. I also offer online sessions via a secure video platform for clients who prefer to work in this way.

Many of my clients see me for help with depression and anxiety, bereavement and loss issues, relationship problems or work place stress. As a professional counsellor, I am trained to offer you a safe, supportive and confidential space where I can help you deal with the issues you wish to work on.

I have developed a style of counselling which, I am told, offers a high level of warmth and support. My role is not to judge you, but to work closely with you whether that involves relaxation techniques to help with anxiety or to employ more creative methods to tackle specific problems.

As a therapist, I wish to help all clients learn to cope more effectively with life’s dramas, stresses and strains.  It is my aim to help every client to find more fulfillment, contentment and peace in their lives.

I have a particular interest in supporting people experiencing burnout, emotional fatigue, loss of confidence, or identity strain related to demanding professional roles. I have a special interest and much experience in working with teaching staff.

Women and personal growth

Over the many years I have been counselling I have enjoyed working with many interesting women from diverse backgrounds as they approach various life changes. I have worked with women looking for Counselling following an important life transition such as, starting a family,  women who wish to improve their self-esteem and relationships or perhaps they wish to become more assertive. Many of the women I work with want to deal with a loss such as divorce or perhaps 'empty nest syndrome'. I am happy to work with you to calmly deal with any issue you bring to therapy and help you find your own hidden resources for coping with whatever is troubling you.

Training and experience

I obtained my certificate and Diploma in Counselling at Salford University in 2005. , The main body of my recent work is working as an NHS Counsellor . I have recently taken early retirement after working for 13 years within the NHS.    I have over five years experience counselling victims of crime and domestic violence for the organisation Victim Support. I am a registered  member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and have achieved BACP Accredited status, which means I am bound by a strict code of professional ethics.

My preferred Model of working is with Person-Centred therapy working in a non-directive way but having gained a Certificate in CBT, I can offer my clients a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy perspective as well.

In 2024 I  completed my training in Person Centred Counselling for Depression gaining an advanced certificate with distinction.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
