About me
Hi, I'm Robbie - I’m an Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist. I think that having a dedicated space to explore our experiences, thoughts, emotions, memories, patterns with curiosity and compassion can lead to new perspective, self-knowledge and change. I've always been hugely valuing of these sorts conversations and am a great believer in their potential to help us navigate life and find meaning in its challenges and tensions. I also think that having this sort of dialogue with another person can bring a certain quality of relational meeting that can be reparative and connecting in and of itself - connecting us to ourselves, to another person, and to our place in the world more broadly.
Each therapeutic relationship is unique and created between the two of us. Generally though, I would say I work by offering a space in which you can freely explore whatever it is that brings you, and that by listening and trying to understand your experience as accurately as I can, a dialogue is initiated in which patterns may emerge, underlying beliefs may be unearthed, and emotional experiencing brought into awareness and expression. At times I would also offer my own responses and reflections along the way - say what I notice, what I wonder about, perhaps suggest possible perspectives. All very much in the spirit of shared enquiry and something for us to wonder about together as opposed to opinion or advice as such.
It can require a real courage to trust another person with the details of our inner lives and experiences; I take this seriously and aim always to be a warm, genuine, and collaborative sort of a presence.
I'm instinctively very drawn to existential thinking and have ongoing interests in philosophy, sociology and psychology. I'm also interested in the therapeutic value of creative expression.
If any of the above particularly resonates with you or you think we might work well together please feel free to get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
