About me

Hello, my name is Richard, and first off, thank you for taking the time to visit and read through my profile in what can seem a long, overwhelming list of counsellors. I am a qualified counsellor and an Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). This means I work to their Code of Ethics and Fundamental Principles, keeping clients at the forefront of our work, ensuring a safe space for you to feel not only welcome but able to voice your fears and concerns.

I understand coming to counselling can be a daunting, frightening, and even expensive experience. However, by approaching our therapeutic relationship with kindness, sensitivity and respect, while working at your pace. Alongside working with specific theoretical models to best suit your needs. I believe this can help enhance the impact that coming to counselling can have for you.

It is my personal view that everyone deserves the right to live a happier content life. Through therapy, I believe this can be achieved when together we can shine a light on those confusing, possibly frightening areas of your life and start to piece together those parts for greater understanding, confidence and self-awareness.

I offer a chance for autonomy without a need to conform to other people’s needs. A space in a relaxed, non-judgemental environment for you to explore your thoughts and emotions, either past or present, to give strength and hope that change is possible and that you are not alone. I see therapy as your time to talk and focus on you and what you need in life.

Everything we do will be in service of you, where, as my client, I put your welfare first and work to support you with the upmost care. For more detailed information, please feel free to check out my website: www.richardkendallcounselling.co.uk

Further information

My practice base is predominantly Transactional Analysis (TA)- oriented, with an underpinning of Person-Centred Therapy. Experience has shown me this combination works with helping people to understand the relationships they have with others as well as themselves. I believe it can help people reflect on their emotions and driving behaviours. Helping to improve their relationships and communication to enhance their lives, bringing balance and understanding of themselves as they see factors that were causing them trouble. Allowing clients to let go of the burdens they carry.

Counselling is not giving advice or instruction on what to do; it is about listening and supporting you to discover your true inner beliefs to assist in empowering you to make better-informed choices that you want with confidence.

I have experience and training in trauma-informed care and an interest in helping people process their traumas and underlying pain to help them start to feel capable to move on and be able to live a happier content everyday life.

Our first session will initially consist of contracting details of how our therapeutic relationship will operate so nothing is hidden from you. Helping of your understanding of what to expect in therapy and highlighting any therapy goals you might already have that you wish to address. We would discuss boundaries and confidentiality, including any reasonably foreseeable limitations. The idea is you feel protected and safe in order to make an informed decision about the counselling service you want to receive from me.
