About me

Hi, I'm Rich a therapist based in North London.

I specialise in working with men.

Being a man today is hard. The men who came before us had a clear role to play. Bring home a wage, keep it together, don't show weakness. Today, that's no longer enough. A man today is expected to, yes, provide financially, but also to provide emotionally. Too much emotion? Well that's a problem. Too little emotion? Well that's a problem too.

I get it. I grew up suppressing feelings because that is what I thought men did. But the suppressed feelings spilled out in other ways – anxiety, pleasing others, constant striving without awareness and just an overall feeling of discontentment.

My own experience receiving therapy showed me there are different ways. When we stop suppressing our difficult emotions, the anxiety and depression often eases. When we are able to respect ourselves, we can strive from a place of gain rather than a place of lack. When we learn about our own needs, we understand that we don't need to please others or close off emotionally in order for those needs to be met.

I work with men for short or long periods. Sometimes you need space to think something through, other times the work goes deeper. I see therapy as an investment in yourself, and session frequency is something we can discuss together. Many people start weekly before moving to a less frequent rhythm as things settle. I offer a free 20 minute introductory call to see if we think we could work well together.

I'm a BACP-registered therapist. If any of this resonates, get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
