About me

In my practice, I work collaboratively with clients and will help you reflect on what you’re bringing to therapy and support your understanding of what emerges in our work together. You might have a specific reason for seeking help, or you might just want someone to talk to in order to understand yourself better.

Sometimes it can be hard to know how to approach any difficulties you may be having in your life and even harder to talk to those closest to you. This is where therapy can be hugely beneficial and I offer a chance to reflect on any problems you might be having in a confidential environment.

My aim is to help you look at the here and now, but also, when appropriate, reflect on how your past may have affected you and shaped the way you see the world. Clients from all walks of life come to me for help and I have experience of working with people who are suffering from a range of issues including relationship problems (with partners, friends or family members), anxiety and depression, loneliness, low self-esteem, trauma and loss.

My approach is integrative, which means that I can draw on different types of therapy techniques and theories that suit your individual needs and personal circumstances. There isn’t a one size fits all approach when it comes to counselling and every client is unique. I believe that building a good therapeutic relationship is key to a successful outcome and forming a strong working alliance is something that I would prioritise in our sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling. I’m a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within the BACP ethical framework. I’ve completed training in therapeutic modalities such as humanistic,  psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Before training as a counsellor I worked in the media for many years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I’m based in Hackney and work from offices in Stoke Newington, Dalston and Haggerston. I work with clients from a range of surrounding areas, including Islington, De Beauvoir and London Fields. As well as seeing clients face to face, I am also able do online sessions. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to therapy and to establish if I am the right therapist for you.

"I would highly recommend Rhona. She is wonderfully kind and always made me feel comfortable to share and discuss what I was working through. I left each of my appointments with a different perspective, a step closer to understanding myself better, and better equipped to navigate challenges. "

Sarah

"Speaking to Rhona over the last six months has had such a positive impact on my mental wellbeing. She gives me the time and space to think about how I'm feeling and has helped me to reframe situations that are impacting me negatively. Rhona is great at remembering the small things and reading between the lines. She's been a calming influence on my everyday life and her techniques have encouraged me to be more honest with those around me."
