About me

Hello, my name is Rhiannon, a qualified BACP Registered counsellor located in Hemel Hempstead. As an Integrative, Person-Centred counsellor, I aim to provide women with a safe, warm and trusting environment. I endeavour to work in a way that is individual and centred around your needs, offering you empathy, non-judgement and honesty. These are all important qualities that I believe can enable you to become more self-aware, empowered and find a greater sense of self-acceptance.

What counselling means to me and what I can offer you -

It is my belief that our journey through life can throw up a variety of difficulties at different stages, that can test and challenge us in many ways. I believe that counselling offers individuals unique time to talk openly about the difficulties they are facing and the space to slow their thoughts down, so that they can look inwardly, hopefully finding clarity and answers to some of the questions they may have.

Counselling offers a space without judgement and the opportunity to talk to someone that is impartial and not directly involved within your day-to-day life.  Counselling can also offer the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the relationships we have and consider how we might like them to be different. Throughout the process of counselling, an alternative and honest perspective can be offered and an opportunity to grow in self-awareness, self-confidence and self-compassion can be gained.

I offer both short and long term, online and face-to-face counselling to women.

Training, qualifications & experience

Before training to become a counsellor, I worked with families, parents and carers, specialising in supporting foster families and looked after children. I have experience of working with women who might be experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and confidence, substance misuse, relationship and family difficulties. Along this, I continue to work for a Rape Crisis organisation and have a strong passion for supporting women who have experience of childhood and adult abuse, sexual and domestic violence and trauma.

  • I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical Framework.
  • I have completed a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling, Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies and Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
  • I have both personal and professional insurance.
  • I hold a strong belief that ongoing learning and development is essential to providing safe and effective counselling support. I enjoy continued learning in areas of interest to me and learning that supports the clients who I work alongside.
  • I have completed additional training around working with individuals who have experienced trauma and may be suffering from PTSD.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

The Counselling Space -

I have created an office room in the garden of my home, in which I offer counselling sessions. This means that I can meet with you face to face in person, but also offer online sessions if these would be more convenient for you. It has been really important to me to create a space that is quiet, comfortable and relaxing for clients.

When arriving for a session with me, parking can be found on Lockers Park Road, Hemel Hempstead. Access is gained via a back gate (up a very short alleyway), where you will find a door number and doorbell to ring.

Unfortunately, I do not have wheelchair access to my counselling room and do not offer toilet facilities, as it is important to me to keep my home and workspace separate.
