About me

I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. I specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), helping people to recover from common mental health and emotional difficulties (such as anxiety and depression).

My approach is often described as supportive and non-judgemental. I help clients feel understood and validated, whilst they learn to develop practical tools and strategies that they can use in everyday life.

I provide a collaborative space where we work together to recognise and understand patterns in your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Using evidence-based interventions, I help clients to work towards meaningful change and improve overall wellbeing.

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, low or unsure about how to change, CBT can help you to understand what is happening and how to progress. I understand that reaching out for help can be difficult and it takes courage, but I’m confident that if you take the first step towards accessing therapy with myself, we can explore what you’ve been experiencing and help you to move forward.

I have a decade of experience in the field of mental health, including working in the NHS, in a Talking Therapies service and within third sector organisations. I have worked with people of all ages – children, young people and adults. I am also a university Associate Lecturer, assisting in the teaching of trainees on evidence-based psychological intervention programmes, so that they can become qualified, competent clinicians.

Additionally, I have attended training and have experience in adapting CBT for individuals with diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

I currently offer both face to face sessions in Guisborough and remote sessions (video or telephone call) for adults at a rate of £75 per hour.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based psychological therapy. It focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings (including physical sensations) and our behaviour (what we do), suggesting that they are all linked.

This means that if we change one of these areas, then it can alter the others. If something happens in life, or if we feel a certain way, we can often fall into patterns of unhelpful thinking or behaviour, which can then worsen how we feel. In CBT, we identify these unhelpful patterns and look at what is maintaining the difficulties (to then change them for the better).

CBT is goal-focused, with the client and therapist working together to make progress towards identified goals. In CBT sessions, practical skills and strategies are learnt and developed. For example, this may include learning how to challenge unhelpful thoughts, gradually facing anxiety-provoking situations or developing healthier coping strategies etc.

CBT is widely recommended by organisations such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, for the treatment of a range of mental health difficulties.
