About me

When things feel dark or uncertain, it may be hard to know where to turn. Whether life feels intolerable right now, or things are just a little off balance, therapy can help you find some steady ground.

I know it can feel daunting to reach out.

I aim to offer a space where you feel safe to explore the complexity of your emotions and perhaps to finally say what you want to say without fear of judgement.

The psychodynamic approach means we may look at how past experiences impact you now and the deeper causes behind the emotions and difficulties you are experiencing.

Along the way, you may find that you discover parts of yourself that have had to remain hidden, or that have been diminished by unhelpful messages given to you in the past about who you are. My aim is to help you disentangle from these messages, find your own unique path through life and live it more fully. I believe passionately in the creative and imaginative forces in each individual and seek to help you find a deeper connection with yourself and your own purpose.

I am an experienced BACP registered psychotherapist. I work one-to-one with adult clients (18+) in Hertford, Stevenage, St Albans, and online.

I adhere to a strict BACP code of conduct, receive regular supervision, engage in continuous professional development and am fully insured. Sessions can be short or long-term (open ended) and are 50 minutes at the same time each week.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - Registration number: 410423

I trained with The Counselling Foundation and hold the following qualifications:

  • Advanced Diploma (Level 7) in Contemporary Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
  • Diploma (Level 5) in Psychodynamic Counselling
  • Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling

As well as working in private practice I am currently an associate counsellor with The Counselling Foundation.

Previously I worked with Hertfordshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Services supporting both individuals and groups in weekly sessions including special educational needs (SEND), early intervention and LGBTQ+ forums. I have extensive experience working in therapeutic support roles for those with moderate to profound learning difficulty in schools across Hertfordshire and London.

Previous to and alongside my training as a therapist, I worked for several decades in the performing arts. I feel passionately about the connection between - and with - body, mind and creativity. This experience and passion informs all the work I do.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
