About me

Hello, I'm Rachel and I am registered member of the National Counselling Society, I work safely and meet the standards of the Professional Body as a competent, ethical and independent counsellor through continuing supervision and professional development attending courses, workshops and events. I provide confidential therapy in a non-judgemental, empathic setting. I am based in a private clinic close to the centre of Lincoln with free parking.

I understand that choosing to have therapy can be a big decision for you and it can sometimes be overwhelming and difficult to know where to start, for both individuals and couples. I have a person-centred value, which places you and your needs and experiences at the heart of your therapy. I will be able to work with you on a short-term or long-term basis, whichever is most helpful to you.

My approach is to guide and support you, but ultimately you are in control of your therapy. It is completely up to you to decide what you wish to talk about and you make your commitment to each session. In this way, it is like learning to drive or riding a bike. You are in the control seat and I am by your side, guiding, supporting and navigating you on your journey.

Whilst my approach is mostly like ‘talk therapy’, I do draw on many elements of counselling practice depending on what may help and support you most in your therapy. This may include CBT approaches (link between thoughts, actions and behaviours) as well as other interactive types of intervention; this may be writing, drawing and elements of role-play. I will always discuss with you about each approach to your therapy. It is very important that you are comfortable and you are able to work in a way that is going to be helpful to you.

Our therapeutic work is a joint partnership which will benefit from a feeling of trust between you as the client and me as the counsellor. As like most things, this can take time to grow and develop, and this will vary between each person. I normally recommend you, or if you are attending as a couple, attend your first session to get an understanding and feel for how it will be working together. You can then decide if you wish to proceed with further sessions and can book more in as block booking, or week by week. It is usually recommended to book as far as possible, to commit to a regular slot at the same time each week.
