About me
I am an experienced relationship therapist and a registered member with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As well as my private practice I work in a school supporting families and individuals. I worked for over 4 years with Relate where I worked with couples, families and individuals. I have worked with families in different settings for over 20 years which has given me a great insight into the family and couple relationships.
Counselling allows us to consider the ways we are thinking or feeling in more depth; to look at our problems and find new ways to respond to them. I can help you find a way through difficulties you may be facing and move forward to make the most of your couple and family relationships, past present or future.
As an integrative therapist, I work with a range of skills and techniques from different therapeutic orientations, which means I can adapt my work to suit your needs. I work with individuals, couples, families and young people.
Starting counselling can feel a little overwhelming, so it is important to be able to foster a relationship with your therapist which is safe, and allows you to freely explore your issues in an open and trusting environment. For this reason, my aim is to provide a non-judgemental, confidential space, where you can explore any problems that you are having to deal with in your life.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Masters in Relationship Therapy (couples, families and individuals) with the Relate Institute (validated by the University of Hull and accredited by BACP).
I have a degree in Education and have over 15 years experience as a classroom teacher.
I have a certificate in counselling working with children and adolescents.
I work in a supportive/counselling role with primary aged children and families in a school setting.
I have undertaken further training including telephone counselling,
I am committed to maintaining my knowledge and being up to date on new developments in the field, so attend continuing professional development courses and workshops regularly. In addition to my private practice, I work for Relate with individuals, couples and young people.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
