About me
Hello, my name is Phil and I am a Wirral based Accredited Integrative Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I offer a confidential, ethical & compassionate service based on what is best for you. I’m here to listen; then, if and when you feel comfortable, to work with you to try and find some answers or get some insight into what’s going on for you. Counselling is not about railroading people into things they don’t want to do; I am here to listen to your concerns and not add to them, making the decision to come to counselling can be very challenging, I am very aware and respectful of that.
In addition to my private practice I worked as a counsellor for a charity in Birkenhead & for seven years have worked helping people with drug, alcohol, criminality and homelessness issues gain employment in Liverpool City Centre & Birkenhead. I then worked with clients with health issues helping them get into employment and deal with the current changes that are occurring. I have worked with military veterans, helping them into work in the past and currently in a counselling capacity, so am familiar with trauma, hyper vigilance and other issues veterans face. This work has given me a deeper insight into the ills which plague individuals, communities and society as a whole, how these problems are the tip of the iceberg and how much counselling can help people explore, cope, grow & heal.
I currently teach 'Understanding Substance Misuse' and Counselling up to level 4 Diploma at Wirral Metropolitan College.
I have a broad knowledge of services available in Wirral & Liverpool for support with mental health, substance misuse, gender, disability, benefits and ethnicity and other counselling services if mine is not suitable for you.
Like most people I’ve experienced several of my own difficult periods in life and as a result have a well-rounded empathic view of life and people in general.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Client Comments:
"I hit rock bottom in my life through drink and low self esteem, I was put in touch with Phil and to be truthful it was a turning point in my life, showing me that lives can be changed. Although I have lost a lot in my life the sessions gave me my confidence back. I have stopped drinking and respect myself a lot more, myself and my family cannot thank him enough, I hope he continues to do his great work" - (Male)
"I felt Phil understood my culture and background, he listened carefully to what I had to say and helped me get a different outlook on issues concerning me, he was comfortable to talk to and put me at ease." - (Female)
