About me

Thank you for visiting my profile, my name is Peter and I am a ‘Person Centred Counsellor’. I understand how difficult it can be to know where to start and to make the right move into seeking help and support.

Life is not always straightforward, feeling overwhelming and confusing at times. It may be yourself, or perhaps a loved one who is struggling with a life event, or difficult emotional issue.

How Counselling can help

Finding the right counsellor is important in order to feel comfortable enough to share, whilst knowing you will be accepted and not judged.

The importance of being heard and understood is very powerful and forms a large part of the therapy. My strength is in the ability to build a deep and meaningful therapeutic relationship with another individual.

I will work with you at your pace on the issues that you want to raise and are struggling to make sense of. You decide how many sessions you would like, either weekly or fortnightly.

In your sessions we might talk about, depression, anxiety, anger issues, relationships, confidence, Work related issues, Bereavement or anything else that is important to you.

I offer a safe and confidential online space to explore understanding, self-acceptance, what is happening for you and any changes you may wish to make.

Walk and Talk Therapy

I am a big believer in the benefits of time spent outdoors and gentle exercise in green spaces. Perhaps you might prefer a ‘Walk and Talk' session ? Studies have shown these sessions can help you decrease anxiety, regulate mood, enjoy more restful sleep and more.

My Additional training includes areas such as Mindfulness, Meditation and coping/grounding techniques. These can also be discussed if appropriate, or relevant in a session.

Online Therapy

For individuals,  I deliver sessions face to face, via Zoom video, telephone, WhatsApp,  or a mix of different methods to suit your needs. Online Therapy can be extremely effective and has been around for a while now. There are many advantages including; accessibility, as well as time saving and privacy issues. It may feel more comfortable opening up online, than in person.  All from from   the comfort of your own home , or  location of your choosing.

Please feel free to contact me to find out more, and how I may be able to help you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I was a Samaritan for five years, and during this time began my counselling studies. In August 2014 I completed my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I have in excess of eight years working for a local mental health charity, where I started as a Counselling Volunteer. I then became a fully qualified Counsellor, before becoming the Lead Counsellor. I have recently formed my own Private Practice where I have full autonomy to support my clients using my knowledge and experience.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Testimonials

'Peter is an excellent counsellor who I would highly recommend. I started counselling with him in 2021 to discuss issues such as bereavement, anxiety, chronic health issues & general life difficulties including a career break. By the time I got to Peter I was at a very low point in life in general. Peter has a great listening ear, provides tools to use and brings real life experiences to discussions. As a medical professional myself I have learnt how important mental health is from him and can't advocate enough the work he does'.

......................................................

I undertook 9 months of therapy with Peter, and I believe those 9 months have changed my life forever. Peter was professional, eloquent, and non-judgmental. I sought out therapy primarily to help with a very challenging work situation that was causing me extreme anxiety. To find someone who could help me understand my thought processes in a more coherent way has made such a difference. My anxiety levels were affecting my ability to cope generally and negative thought processes were holding me back in my relationships with others and above all, myself.

..............................................

'Working with Peter has been a really positive and transformative experience. He understood what I needed straight away and through incisive but gentle questioning helped me change the way I think about so many things. If you are thinking about talking to a therapist, I would encourage you to go for it!'
