About me

I am professional Integrative Counsellor, Accredited & Registered by the BACP.

I work with a diverse client group bringing various issues, including brain injury survivors and their families.

I specialise in grief & loss and have over 16 years' experience of working in the brain injury field.

I have had personal experience on the effects of Dementia on the individual and those around them.

I work as an EAP affiliate counsellor, and I am an approved adoptions counsellor for the General Register Office.

At times life events beyond our control can be difficult to deal with, so I offer a confidential, non-judgmental counselling therapy in a safe and calm environment.

Depending on the issues the client brings I will use different techniques to help the client find ways of coping, empower them to make positive change and/or identify and reach life changing goals. I have an extensive electronic library of self-help tools and worksheets which my clients can benefit from as part of the counselling service.

I use an array of therapeutic models:

  • Person Centred Therapy
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Acceptance & Commitment therapy
  • Solution Focused
  • Mindfulness

I also have an extensive library of self-help documents which I share with client as part of the therapy.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Testimonial

“Dear Pauline,
I can't thank you enough for all the help you have given me to help rebuild myself and my life. I am dealing with things in a much better way, and I have built up a resilience that I never knew I had.

I am still getting a lot of daily things happening to try and provoke me but it's not working.
I'm not saying your help has made me dead inside, but you helped me see that other influences can cloud your view on things.

I know some people don't think counselling is for them but in my life, I probably won't save anyone's life whereas you saved mine because I felt like I had no way out. I will never be able to repay the time you put into me.
Thank you again for all your help and I will be forever grateful for it, and I will refer to the self-help material you sent, during any tough times in future”

“Pauline is being invaluable to my mental health and carer support. She is calm, considered, empathetic with a wealth of knowledge on neuro and head injuries. The best way to describe her support is that she gives me permission to take good care of myself and be selfish sometimes to look after me. She is helping me to understand how not to be a "people pleaser", take ownership and responsibility for my own wants and needs and to effectively communicate with my partner in a non-threatening, calm, clear manner.
My mental health is improving hugely because of her support with me. This then helps me be more patient and understanding with my partner.
Thank you so much I really look forward to our sessions”.

"I have recently just finished a few sessions of counselling with Pauline to assist me with some issues I have been having. I needed help with some of the relationships in my life and have been struggling with commitment. She was a really big help to me, listened throughout, was never judgmental and was always trying to enable me to find a solution to each point I raised. She was calm and friendly and put me at ease.

She gave me some self help tools which included something called 'Mindfullness', a technique focused on breathing and returning your mind to the present. Your breathing is constant and ever-present so by focusing on it you can be in the present which has really helped to clear my mind of all of my worries.

I would recommend Pauline to anyone in the area that needs someone there to just listen to them. She is the friendly face that you need if you are having problems in your personal life and I couldn't recommend her highly enough"

Many thanks

'Pauline has helped me enormously to regain some confidence and become more ‘me’ again after my sons serious accident. She has empowered me to try to help myself, albeit slowly and I am very grateful for that’

'Pauline put me at ease on our first session. I would most definitely recommend Pauline to anyone. I will miss speaking to her very much, but I think I am now in a position to let Pauline go and to let her help someone else who needs it.
