About me

I am a child and adolescent therapist working with children and young people aged 5- 25 years old.
My approach is relational, empathetic, non-judgemental and I offer a calm, safe, contained space to help support and difficulties and concerns. I employ an integrative approach to therapy, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches which ensures counselling is tailored to individual needs, developmental age, and personal circumstances.

What I can help with:

Counselling for younger children

Younger children can sometimes feel overwhelmed by big emotions or difficult circumstances which can impact on their well-being and behaviour, learning and the parent /child relationship. Play is the language of the child, for younger children in particular, play helps communicate their thoughts and feelings. I use play and creative materials, alongside talk based therapy, which is a powerful tool for children to express their feelings when they do not have the words developmentally to do so.

Familiar issues that present are behavioural issues, anxiety, school transitions, friendship issues, bullying, parent child relationship, self-esteem, confidence, low mood, the impact of family issues, separation anxiety, emotional dysregulation, managing and recognising big emotions and feelings.

Counselling for adolescents

Adolescence is an enormous period of change and the developmental transition to adulthood includes changes in the brain and the body. It can feel a stressful time as your young person moves towards maturity and experiences new demands, physically, socially, and emotionally. Familiar issues that present friendship issues, relationships, peer pressure,
identity, body image, fitting in, managing stress, and challenging emotions, self-esteem, exam stress/ pressure and family changes/family breakdown.

Counselling for young adults

This can be a challenging time for a young adult, looking for employment, finishing school, starting university, leaving home for the first time as well as familiar issues that can impact on health and wellbeing: family changes/family breakdown, anxiety, low mood, exam stress, work stress/pressures, friendship/peer issues, identity, body image, relationships, cultural and societal pressures, the list is not exhaustive and can mean different things, depending on the individual context.

Although teenagers and young people tend towards talking therapy, I find that creative expression can also help express non- verbal feelings and personal experience.

I understand how difficult and challenging it is for parents/caregivers to see their child, teenager and young person struggling. I am systemic in my thinking, which means I think about your child, teenager, young person within the context of their family.

Everyone has various stages or times in their lives when they need help, I am child -centred, that is I work with your child/young person at their own pace, so they can make sense of themselves and their experiences and find their own way of resolving current issues and developing their unique potential.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have substantial experience working with children and young people in primary and secondary schools face-to-face and online.

I set up my practice as I am passionate about mental health and well being. I currently work with a leading child and young people's bereavement charity working face to face, online in school and at home.

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
