About me

I am a Qualified Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (Adv.Dip.) and member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), offering counselling on a 1 to 1 basis with 14 years post training experience. I've worked extensively with Addiction, Depression, Divorce, Inter-Cultural issues and Racial Issues, Sexual Abuse, Self-esteem, Blockages, Careers Advice, Deep and long standing communication issues, Relationship issues and many other areas. Having worked in Assessment for Employment Assistance Programs for more than 3 years I am able to offer a service which is authentic and ethical in its practice.

I work with an Integrative model working with 3 main theoretical approaches which enable me to work at a deeper level with past and or current problems. Clients can bring what is troubling them and we work together to find the solutions to the issues as they arise. I work both Short and Long-term, allowing 'you' the Client to decide what is best for you.

I've lived with and experienced different cultural backgrounds. Having been raised with difference I can understand at a deep level what it means to be the Child of an immigrant in the UK. Through my own life's knowledge I gained the necessary insight into the difficult psychological issues that arise out of "Being Different" from the Culture in which you're raised and expected to live, perform and be successful.

"You are your life" and only you know the answers. However in our ever changing world, our situations can become confusing. Having a private space that is yours, away from your world of work and life can be just the thing you need to resolve the concerns that are holding you back from moving in the direction you'd like to go. Being held in the suspension of an 'old story' can often be draining and exhausting ...

"to be there and "not know"... is worse".

'To Be Me Counselling Service' aims to enable you to be understood at a deeper level, where you will be able to piece together the 'jigsaw puzzle' that has alluded you. I am here to listen 'to the whole of you, just the way you are', and enable the journey back to yourself.

I look forward to meeting with you.

Training, qualifications & experience

My first year of training was in a Person Centred approach. Meaning that I am able to be with you on the whole of your story no matter how many long it takes or how you wish to approach telling it.

My second was a combination of the Gestalt, Trans-Actional Analysis and Psychodynamics theories, which has helped me to understand an individual's 'Parts of their self', and facilitate the process by which they are able to piece the whole together within an Adult frame of reference. This also helps find some conclusion to long standing issues in an empathic and understanding environment.

During my third year I focussed on the Psychodynamic theory in order to gain a better understanding of why people choose to function in the way that they do. I believe everyone has this insight into their way of being but having this witnessed and fed back to them in a non-judgemental and insightful manner can be so healing as to lay the past to rest in a conclusive way, that enables the individual to better control their inner way of being. This process enables the Client to become comfortable within their own Skin, leaving them free to move forwards with inner and outer confidence.

The final year of my training was focussed on the Inter-Cultural Theory and practice pioneered by a Jafar Kareem, who advocated "that a persons background and culture was fundamental to the way in which the operated in their world regardless of the Culture in which they live".  I take on board the Client's life from their perspective, not from an illusionary standpoint, of the culture in which the Client lives and is expected  to perform within.  This allows the full and real self of the person to shine and be at one, revealing a more 'holistic' Self to function peacefully. Being "who you are", will allow a settled you to move and integrate in a more relaxed and peaceful world that you create, and not one that is dictated by your past experiences.
